Powertrain Specs and Range
The new BMW electric vehicle will launch in a single configuration, iX3 50 xDrive. On an internal combustion BMW, the number 50 currently denotes a high-output turbocharged inline-six-cylinder engine; for an EV, it signals roughly equivalent output from the electric motors. In this case, that means 463 horsepower and 476 pounds-feet of torque, which BMW estimates will accelerate the iX3 from 0-60 mph in 4.7 seconds. As with all BMWs, xDrive means all-wheel drive, which on the iX3 is thanks to dual electric motors, one powering each axle.
The iX3 is the first BMW EV to use the brand’s new 800-volt electrical architecture, which is said to be 20% more energy-dense than the previous hardware. The iX3’s 112.2-kilowatt-hour battery enables a fantastic maximum range of 434 miles when equipped with 20-inch summer tires, a no-cost option. With the standard 20-inch all-season rubber, range drops to 383 miles. There are three other wheel and tire options; range on those setups is as follows:
- 21-inch summer tires: 398 miles
- 21-inch all-season tires: 399 miles
- 22-inch summer tires: 392 miles
Capable of DC fast charging at a rate of up to 400 kilowatts, the iX3 can add as much as 185 miles of range in just 10 minutes and replenish its battery charge level from 10% to 80% in as little as 21 minutes.
Versus Competitors
The 2027 iX3’s maximum range places it among the longest-range EVs available today. In fact, the only EVs that can go farther on a charge cost significantly more than the iX3’s base price. It enjoys a comfortable advantage over similarly priced compact luxury electric SUVs.

Standard and Available Safety Features
Standard safety technologies on the 2027 BMW iX3 include forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane-centering steering assist, blind spot intervention, and automated parking with front, rear and side parking sensors.
The optional Driving Assistance Professional Package includes BMW’s hands-free Highway Assistant and automatic lane-change function that suggests lane changes and executes them after the driver looks at the appropriate exterior mirror. The Parking Assistant Package adds a 3D 360-degree camera system.
One Trim Level, Many Options
The iX3 will launch in a single base configuration, with a variety of option packages available. From inside, the most noticeable elements of BMW’s Neue Klasse styling are the standard windshield-spanning Panoramic Vision display and 17.9-inch touchscreen, the latter of which includes navigation, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and wireless phone charging. Other standard highlights include a power liftgate, keyless entry and start, perforated synthetic leather upholstery, heated front seats and dual-zone automatic climate control.
Numerous packages and stand-alone options allow buyers to add features such as a panoramic moonroof, aggressive M Sport exterior styling accents and upgraded brakes with red or blue calipers. Interior options include genuine leather upholstery, heated rear seats, a heated steering wheel, head-up display and Harman Kardon audio system.
