Hyundai Adds Smarter Garage Door Functionality to 2024-26 Models
What Car Shoppers Need to Know
- Chamberlain’s myQ app allows for remote control and monitoring of garage doors.
- Hyundai has integrated myQ directly into certain models’ touchscreens.
- Geofencing feature can be configured to automatically open and close a garage door as you arrive and depart
More than 50 million homes in the U.S. use Chamberlain or LiftMaster garage door openers. Seeing as Hyundai is closing in on a million sales here annually, presumably many so-equipped garages house the brand’s vehicles. Now, owners of certain model-year 2024-26 Hyundais can get access to Chamberlain’s myQ app directly through their vehicle’s infotainment touchscreen.

Hi myQ
Already available as a smartphone app, myQ works like a smarter garage door opener with unlimited range. When connected to your home Wi-Fi network, it not only allows you to open or close your garage door, it also can tell you whether the door is open or closed and allows you to open or close it from anywhere your phone has service.
Integrating myQ into the touchscreen through Hyundai’s Bluelink telematics service expands on these capabilities. Owners can create customized geofences that automatically control the door as the vehicle departs or arrives back at the garage. Hyundai and Chamberlain also tout the integrated app’s ability to let drivers close their garage door while the vehicle is in Reverse with the backup camera feed otherwise taking over the display. Given the fact that the U.S. had to mandate reverse cameras starting in 2019 because Americans couldn’t stop backing over things, though, introducing a new distraction during this process is perhaps not the best idea.
As anyone with a sufficiently paranoid family member or friend can attest, garage door openers in general — and the popular universal HomeLink catchall — may not be the best idea. If someone steals your car and they know where you live — or can find out by searching for “home” in your navigation system — they now may have access to your house, as well. MyQ’s valet mode preempts that fear by disabling garage door control.
Other Brands That Use myQ
Hyundai is not the first automaker Chamberlain has partnered with. The brand joins Acura, Honda, Infiniti, Kia, Mercedes-Benz, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Tesla and Volkswagen in offering myQ integration. Hyundai is rolling out myQ with a complimentary three-month trial in certain 2024-26 models and trims; the brand’s owners can find out if their vehicles are compatible in the Bluelink mobile app.
If your garage door opener is not a Chamberlain or LiftMaster (or Craftsman, which is also owned by Chamberlain Group), you may still be able to integrate these functions into your vehicle. MyQ Smart Garage Control is compatible with most brands so long as the unit was manufactured after 1993 and uses standard safety sensors.
