Hyundai Genesis, Genesis G80 Recalled for Brake System Short Circuit
One of the key selling points for the last-generation Hyundai Genesis and its Genesis G80 successor that made it such a value was safety, with the car making Insurance Institute for Highway Safety lists in both guises and the G80 adding a heap of standard safety technology upon its introduction. But one of those features, antilock brakes, is now the subject of a recall from Genesis parent automaker Hyundai.

At risk are more than 94,000 model-year 2015-16 Genesis and model-year 2017-20 G80 sedans. The issue stems from the antilock brake system module, which could malfunction and short circuit. An electrical short circuit inside the ABS module could cause an engine compartment fire when the sedan is parked or while driving; as a result, Hyundai recommends that owners park outside and away from any structures until repairs have been made.
To resolve the problem, dealers will simply replace the ABS module fuse for free. Hyundai will begin notifying owners May 7, but those with further questions can call the automaker at 855-371-9460, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236 or visit its website to check their vehicle identification number and learn more.
