Hyundai Offers Sneak Peek of Next Elantra GT
CARS.COM — Hyundai redesigned its popular Elantra sedan for the 2017 model year but left the Elantra GT hatchback in the previous generation. That’s about to change: Ahead of its full reveal at the 2017 Chicago Auto Show, Hyundai released a sneak peek of a redesigned 2018 Elantra GT.
The images and a teaser video show a honeycomb grille that spans from the headlights down to the lower bumper — similar to the sedan’s grille, though the GT’s has a more vertical design. Hyundai also showed an automatic-transmission shifter, a start button and part of the steering wheel. Red accents appear as a major theme: They’re around the start button, on the steering wheel, and in the contrast stitching on the shift boot and seat upholstery.
If the old Elantra GT was any indication, the redesigned GT should be more than just an Elantra sedan turned hatchback. For starters, the shifter photo indicates a unique center console that adopts more of a waterfall design than the sedan’s, with what appears to be a sliding cover over the cupholders — an upscale touch.
