Lincoln Partners With Upstart Rivian for First Electric Vehicle
Lincoln has already announced plans to electrify part of its lineup with plug-in versions of the Aviator and Corsair SUVs, and now it’s going all in. The automaker announced today that it will partner with electric-truck manufacturer Rivian for Lincoln’s first all-electric vehicle.

The two companies formed a strategic partnership in 2019, with Ford investing $500 million in the company in order to get the use of Rivian’s “skateboard” EV platform technology. Lincoln said its new all-electric vehicle will be built off that platform.
Lincoln also said the new EV is part of Ford’s previously announced investment of more than $11.5 billion into electrification, which includes the Mustang Mach-E and an electric version of the F-150 pickup.
Other details on the new model are slim, but we can assume that it will be an SUV, as that’s where Lincoln — and just about every other automaker — is putting its focus. Lincoln has introduced four new SUVs in the past three years, and the automaker also announced that it will cease production of one of the last sedans in its lineup, the MKZ, later this year; only the Continental remains.
