We saw a translated release from Mini on Monday about its upcoming Mini Connect option. All we could make out of the German-to-English wording was that the all-new feature worked with the iPhone. What the iPhone would do wasn’t clear. Luckily, MotoringFile, a Mini enthusiast blog, explains it a bit better.
The new system will both replicate an iPhone in terms of connecting to the Internet, and users will be able to use an iPhone — as well as the car’s built-in controls — to manage features and apps. The first apps will be for Internet radio, and more will become available closer to launch date.
Mini Connect will first be offered in the all-new Countryman SUV when it goes on sale early in 2011. Future model years of other Mini models will also receive this option.
