Few details are available on the crossover, though Mitsubishi says it will be powered by an all-new 1.8-liter gas engine. It’s unclear whether this power plant will be offered in U.S. versions, though.
Mitsubishi released a few images of the vehicle in conjunction with its L.A. Auto Show press conference, and the RVR has a handsome look, with Mitsubishi’s familiar trapezoidal grille. Overall, its styling is softer than the Outlander’s.
We’ve seen an influx of new small cars in the U.S. lately, with models like the Toyota Yaris, Honda Fit and many others, but the same explosion hasn’t yet happened in the crossover segment — though the Kia Soul and Nissan Cube are exceptions. A model like the RVR seems nicely positioned to attract shoppers who want something small, but not a small car.
