Mitsubishi is expanding a previous recall to include more than 198,000 Outlander and Outlander Plug-in Hybrid SUVs over a software issue that affects the rearview camera.

Affected vehicles include model-year 2022-24 Outlanders and model-year 2023-25 Outlander Plug-in Hybrids. A software issue in the infotainment system may cause the rearview camera image to freeze or prevent it from displaying, reducing the driver’s rear visibility and increasing the risk of a crash.

As a fix, dealers will update the infotainment system software for free. Letters notifying owners of the issue are expected to be mailed June 30. Vehicles that were repaired under the previous recall will need to have the new remedy completed. Owners with questions in the meantime can contact Mitsubishi at 888-648-7820 (Mitsubishi’s number for this recall is SR-25-001), the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236, or visit its website to check your vehicle identification number and learn more.
