Nearly 189,000 model-year 2021-23 K5s are affected. The side curtain airbags may have been installed incorrectly, causing them to deploy improperly in the event of a crash and increase the risk of injury.

The fix is straightforward: Dealers will inspect and reinstall the side curtain airbags, as necessary, for free. Kia will begin notifying owners April 7, but those with further questions can call the brand at 800-333-4542 (Kia’s number for this recall is SC263), the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236, or visit its website to check your vehicle identification number and learn more.
