It’s been a relatively sedate year on the recall front for Nissan, but for the second time this summer, the automaker’s two pickup truck nameplates are being recalled. As it was for the June recall of more than 180,000 Frontier and Titan pickups, the issue this time around for more than 203,200 trucks stems from a transmission issue that could cause a rollaway.
The affected population of model-year 2020-23 Frontiers and Titans expands on the June recall. The transmission parking pawl may not engage when the vehicle is shifted into Park, which can result in a rollaway, increasing the risk of a crash. Nissan says the investigation is ongoing, but the flaw appears to be distinct from that which afflicted the earlier population, hence the wider population of affected trucks.
As it was in June, Nissan is still developing a remedy, and owners are advised to apply the parking brake every time they park their truck. Owners will be notified Nov. 1, but those with questions can call the automaker at 800-867-7669, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236 or visit its website to check their vehicle identification number and learn more.
