Ford has issued a recall of more than 200,000 Ford and Lincoln vehicles over a software issue that affects the backup camera (Lincoln is Ford’s luxury arm).
Affected vehicles include the following Fords and their associated model years:
2018-20 Transit Connect vans
2019-20 Edge SUVs, Fusion sedans and F-150 pickup trucks
2019-23 Mustang cars and Ranger pickups
2020-21 EcoSport and Expedition SUVs
2020-22 Escape SUVs and Super Duty F-250 pickups
2020-23 Transit vans
2020-24 Explorer SUVs
2021-24 Bronco Sport SUVs
2022-24 Maverick pickups
And the following Lincolns:
2019-20 MKZ and Continental sedans and Nautilus SUVs
2020-21 Navigator SUVs
2020-22 Corsair SUVs
2020-23 Aviator SUVs
A software issue may cause the backup camera to show a blank image, or the image may remain on the screen after the driver is done backing up. Either can reduce the driver’s view while backing up or distract them while driving, both increasing the risk of a crash.
To resolve the issue, dealers will update the backup camera software for free. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed July 28, but those with further questions can contact Ford at 866-436-7332 (Ford’s number for this issue is 25S72), the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236, or visit its website to check their vehicle identification number and learn more.
