CARS.COM — Gunner Kennels‘ G1 Intermediate pet crate with strength-rated anchor straps, the top performing crate in the Center for Pet Safety’s 2015 Crate and Carrier Crashworthiness Studies, has received five-star certification from CPS, the agency’s highest rating. The G1 Intermediate is the first crate to receive CPS five-star certification.
“Gunner Kennels has set the bar high for the pet products industry,” CPS founder and CEO Lindsey Wolko said in a statement. This is a landmark achievement for Gunner Kennels.”
A nonprofit pet-safety and research advocacy organization, CPS has been at the forefront of testing whether pet-safety products actually keep pets safe in a car crash. When certifying products, CPS awards ratings of five stars, four stars or not recommended.
Made of double-walled rotomolded plastic, the 49-pound G1 crate is designed to safely contain dogs weighing up to 75 pounds. I tested it nearly a year ago with my 65-pound golden retriever and was impressed. It’s sturdy and well-ventilated with steel pins in each of the top four corners so that it can be strapped to a vehicle’s tie-down rings using strength-rated cargo straps (which Gunner sells as an accessory). The door has two locks for additional security, rubber feet at the bottom for extra grip, a removable drain plug for easy cleaning and rubber kayak-grade handles for carrying ease. Gunner also makes a larger crate for dogs up to 110 pounds; it has not yet been tested.
