Vehicles Affected: Model-year 2003-2005 Dodge Ram 1500, 2500 and 3500 pickup trucks and model-year 2005 Dodge Dakota pickups originally sold, ever registered or still registered in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas as well as American Samoa, Guam, Puerto Rico, Saipan and the U.S. Virgina Islands
The Problem: When the passenger-side airbag is triggered by a crash event, the inflator could rupture and send metal fragments toward in-vehicle passengers, striking them and potentially causing serious injuries.
The Fix: Chrysler will notify owners beginning Feb. 8, and dealers will replace the front passenger airbag inflator free of charge.
What Owners Should Do: Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 800-853-1403 or call NHTSA's Safety Hotline at 888-327-4236 or go to www.safecar.gov.
