Recall Alert: 2006-2008 Kia Optima

There’s a possibility that the shift cable may have been installed incorrectly on some Optimas, causing tension on the cable. Under this condition, it’s possible for the cable to detach from the shifter assembly, thus preventing the vehicle from being shifted. If the vehicle’s parking brake is not engaged, there is a possibility for the vehicle to roll away, possibly causing an accident.

The recall is expected to begin this month. Dealers will inspect the cable and reinstall it if necessary, free of charge. Owners can call Kia at 800-333-4542 or NHTSA’s vehicle safety hotline at 888-327-4236 for more information.
