Vehicles Affected: Ford is recalling approximately 27,600 model-year 2014 and 90 model-year 2015 Ford Transit Connect vans in two separate recalls.
The Problem: In the first recall, model-year 2014 Transit Connects with a 2.5-liter engine built at the Valencia Body and Assembly Plant in Spain between Aug. 1, 2013, and July 10, 2014, may have incorrect fuel- and vapor-line routing. If the lines are routed incorrectly, they may rub together and possibly cause a leak in the fuel line over time. A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source may result in a fire and increase the risk of a crash.
In the second recall, a bracket that holds the fuel filter to the frame in model-year 2015 Transit Connects built at the Kansas City Assembly Plant in Missouri between July 28, 2014, and Aug. 7, 2014, may become detached over time. If the filter becomes detached, it will result in a knocking sound or an engine stall because of fuel starvation. An engine stall with the inability to restart the engine could increase the risk of a crash. Ford is unaware of any accidents or injuries related to these issues.
The Fix: Ford will notify owners, although it has not yet announced a notification schedule for either recall. In the 2014 Transit Connect recall, dealers will inspect the lines and reroute the fuel line if necessary. In the 2015 Transit Connect recall, dealers will inspect the vehicles and reinforce the underbody structure if necessary. Work related to both recalls will be done for free.
