Tesla’s latest recall affects more than 376,200 examples of its Model 3 sedan and Model Y SUV and results from an issue with the vehicles’ power steering system.
Affected vehicles include model-year 2023 Model 3s and Model Ys with operating software prior to 2023.38.4. An overvoltage may stress the vehicles’ drive components on the circuit board, causing a loss of power steering assist when the vehicle stops and then goes to accelerate again. A loss of power steering makes steering require more effort, especially at lower speeds, increasing the risk of a crash.
Tesla has released an over-the-air update to resolve the issue. The automaker will begin notifying owners March 25, but those with further questions in the meantime can call Tesla at 877-798-3752 (Tesla’s number for this recall is SB-25-00-004), the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236, or visit its website to check your vehicle identification number and learn more.
