The Best Certified Pre-Owned Car Values of 2015

CARS.COM — Judging a vehicle’s value is an exercise in data overload given all the factors to consider. Data provider Vincentric picked eight specific factors and crunched the numbers for more than 15,000 vehicles; the results are the company’s 2015 Best Certified Pre-Owned Value in America winners. Among individual brand winners, Honda topped the list for passenger cars, while Audi was the top luxury brand. Ford was the top brand among SUVs and vans, while GMC topped the list for trucks.

Vincentric provides the data behind Cars.com’s five-year Cost of Ownership tool. For each car on its 2015 Best CPO Value in America study, Vincentric looked at depreciation, fees and taxes, financing, fuel, insurance, maintenance, opportunity cost and repairs across all 50 states plus the District of Columbia. The analysis assumed 15,000 annual miles and awarded cars with the lowest ownership costs relative to their respective segments. Vincentric awarded the winners as the best value choice among certified pre-owned vehicles — that is, late-model used cars that dealers refurbish and furnish with extended warranties.
Among overall automakers, Toyota (including its Lexus and Scion brands) and Ford (including its Lincoln brand) had the most individual winners with seven cars apiece. Nissan and its Infiniti brand had the second-highest total with six cars on the list.
