Thieves Love the Escalade

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety just released its list of most- and least-stolen 2003-2005 vehicles. Cadillac Escalade owners will not be happy. The chrome-loving SUV is the most sought after, not only by trendsetters but by thieves as well. More than 13 Escalades per 1,000 insured were stolen last year, averaging a $17,913 payment per claim. That’s quite a bit higher than the second most-stolen vehicle, the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution, a high-powered racer made for the street, which averaged $10,326 per claim.

Truck owners should also be worried. The Dodge Ram 1500 Quad Cab and Ford F-250/350, both full-size trucks, also made the top five list of most-stolen cars.

Owners who don’t have to fret about their rides drawing a second look from thieves drive these least-stolen vehicles: Ford Taurus station wagon, Pontiac Vibe 4WD, Buick LeSabre, Buick Park Avenue, Toyota Sienna 4WD.
