Tires Made Greener by Oranges

Because the oil has a similar molecular structure as natural rubber, it softens the final material and increases the tire’s grip on the road. Not only is the tire greener and easier to recycle, but Yokohama says it will also be more durable in the long run.

To prove the ENV-R1’s road worthiness, Yokohama sponsored the Patron GT3 Challenge, where Porsches raced on Sebring International Speedway. Every car in the race used the orange-infused tires.

How soon can you get an orange oil tire? They’re expected to be available for gas-electric hybrid cars like the Toyota Prius and Honda Civic Hybrid by June.
