Volvo is recalling 42,000 2005-model-year XC90 SUVs due to potential short-circuits in the battery. The company says no reports of short-circuits have been reported, but that it “wants to be extra careful.” The reason there might be an issue is that the battery is in the rear of the vehicle and can come into contact with a spare tire jack, causing a short. Vehicles will be inspected to make sure the battery is safe, and extra warning labels will be added so owners don’t place the jack handle too close to the battery.
