Back in March, Volkswagen recalled its Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport SUVs over a loose engine cover that could lead to a fire. Now, the automaker is recalling more than 171,380 examples of the SUVs over an issue with the rearview camera.

Affected vehicles include model-year 2024-25 Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport SUVs. Due to a software error, the rearview camera image may appear distorted when the vehicle is in Reverse, impacting the driver’s visibility and increasing the risk of a crash.

Dealers will resolve the issue by updating the camera control unit software for free. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed July 18, but those with further questions can contact the automaker at 800-893-5298 (VW’s number for this recall is 91SB), the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236, or visit its website to check their vehicle identification number and learn more.
