Reviews
Write a review**** Buyer Beware **** I am extremely disappointed with how Bob Penkhus Mazda handled what should have been a straightforward vehicle purchase. After spending several days researching and negotiating, we test-drove both a 2026 and a 2024 Mazda and finally reached an agreement on a vehicle on Tuesday afternoon. Our salesperson, Dartanian, contacted us afterward to ask when we would like to come in to complete the paperwork. He let us know he would be off on Wednesday, so we agreed that Thursday would work best. On Wednesday, we confirmed that we would be there Thursday evening. Then, on Thursday morning, we reached out again to make sure everything was still on track. Dartanian confirmed that it was, telling us the vehicle would be detailed and all of the paperwork would be ready for us to sign at 5:30 p.m. We drove approximately 35 minutes to the dealership, arriving at our scheduled appointment, only to be told that the vehicle had already been sold. We were then informed that it had actually been sold Tuesday evening around 8:00 p.m., and that our salesperson supposedly wasn't made aware until approximately 30 minutes before we arrived. That explanation is extremely difficult to accept. If the vehicle had been sold two days earlier, why did no one notify us? Why did we receive confirmation that same morning that everything was ready? A simple phone call or text message would have saved us the unnecessary drive and shown basic respect for our time. What made the experience even more frustrating was the dealership's attempt to "replace" the vehicle with significantly less desirable options. The only alternatives presented were vehicles with hail damage or higher mileage, yet they were offered at essentially the same price as the vehicle we had already negotiated. Those are not comparable replacements, nor did they demonstrate any effort to honor the deal we had reached. To make matters worse, when we declined the hail-damaged vehicle, Sales Manager Cody laughed at our decision. Whether that was his intention or not, it came across as dismissive and unprofessional, especially given the circumstances. After the inconvenience and lack of communication we had already experienced, this interaction only reinforced the feeling that our concerns were not being taken seriously. Even more disappointing, no one made any meaningful attempt to regain our trust. There was no offer of a discount, dealer credit, complimentary maintenance, accessories, or any other goodwill gesture to acknowledge the inconvenience and poor communication. Instead, we repeatedly heard that Bob Penkhus Mazda "values loyal customers." Unfortunately, their actions demonstrated the exact opposite. My family has purchased our last two vehicles from Bob Penkhus Mazda, and we have continued to service those vehicles there on a regular basis. We returned because we believed our loyalty and repeat business meant something. Instead, we were left feeling misled, inconvenienced, and completely unappreciated. Mistakes happen, and vehicles can certainly sell unexpectedly. However, communication, accountability, and customer service are what separate a great dealership from an average one. Confirming an appointment the morning of the sale, allowing us to drive 35 minutes to the dealership, and then informing us upon arrival that the vehicle had been sold is simply unacceptable. Based on this experience, Bob Penkhus Mazda has lost the trust of a loyal customer. We walked into the dealership expecting to finalize a purchase and left questioning whether we even wanted to own another Mazda. We are now shopping other brands and dealerships because customer service and integrity matter just as much as the vehicle itself. I sincerely hope management reviews how this situation was handled so future customers—especially those who have supported the dealership for years—are treated with the professionalism, communication, and respect they deserve.

We appreciate your family's loyalty as repeat customers and regret the communication breakdown regarding the vehicle's availability prior to your drive. It is never our intention to make any guest feel unappreciated or dismissed during their visit, and we apologize for the frustration this situation caused. Our sales management team at Powers has since connected with you directly to address these communication errors and discuss the next steps. We are grateful for your willingness to continue working with Dartanian and our team as we actively search for alternative vehicles that align with your expectations. We remain committed to earning back your trust and delivering the high standard of service you deserve. Please continue to coordinate directly with our Powers management team at 719-785-9666 as we work to secure the right vehicle for you.
I purchased my 2nd car from this dealer and up to that point I had no complaints. However, after purchasing the 2nd car for $40k, I learned they don't include the SDNav card. So I purchased an after market bcuz of the stupid amount Mazda charges for theirs. I needed to update the Nav card but was unable to do so myself. I called Mazda and they said sure they can do it, just bring it in. I took it in, and they told me no, we can't update it, but you can buy a new Mazda one. This will be the last Mazda we purchase from Bob Penkhus.

I want to start this by saying this review is in no way representative of our sales woman. She was wonderful, professional, full of energy, and I’m sure she will do wonderful things in car sales . This review is in response to the sales manager and the dealership as a whole . My wife and I came in to see a Jeep that was on Facebook. When we arrived, it was a little rougher than the pictures made it seem. However, another Jeep grabbed our attention. Being an ex Chrysler tech and having a long career in automotive repair , I knew what and where to look to see if this Jeep had any issues , which for its age I expected it to have some. And I found it did , it had oil leaks in a few places . It had an issue with the key getting stuck in the ignition. All 4 tires, while having good tread depth , were old , dry rotting , and had tread separation . From my experience, the vehicle was going to need $3-5k in repairs shortly after purchasing it . After talking over with my wife , we felt that if the dealership would agree to a fair price, even with the needed repairs, we would go through with the purchase, as I would be able to facilitate the repairs at my current employer for a reasonable price . We offered slightly under what KBB had listed for average selling price . 10k vs 10.8k . After about 10 min the manager came out to tell me that not only would he not be accepting my offer , but if we didn’t want to purchase the vehicle as is , at his price ( which was roughly 3k above the highest number on kbb) that I could leave . “ take it, or leave”. This manager was unprofessional , un willing to listen to reason , seemed to be more worried about holding gross than being fair and doing what was right by the customer and genuinely rude . This is a shame as we would have liked to work with this dealership , would loved to have owned the Jeep and above all would have like to buy from our sales woman. I’m unsure if it’s the dealerships way to sell vehicles that need work as soon as the leave the lot at massively inflated prices , or if it was just this manager. But the market has reached a point where the covid shortage has ended , vehicles are no longer scarce or rare and customers deserve to be treated correctly and prices should be fair.

Drew, we sincerely apologize that your experience was unpleasant. We go to great lengths to price our cars to the market and take condition into account on all of them. Most of our customers hate the back and forth, so we try hard to make it a simple experience. We would be glad to discuss with you further. Please call AJ Ager GM at 719-785-9666. Thank you.
I recently wrote a review concerning of my purchase. The manager Jesse contacted me regarding my review and was open to questions and concerns. He explained everything thoroughly and made me feel more at ease about my purchase. One of my key fobs is having some troubles right now and he told me to bring it in asap and will get it all fixed up for me! That I am much appreciative of. Management is great in contacting you if you had any sort of troubles and are quick with a better understanding of what went wrong and was real reassuring and apologetic. Excited to meet again soon to get everything sorted out!

Jess, thank you for allowing us the opportunity to make it right! We appreciate your business, and we wish you the very best!
Dartanian Wayde was trying to swindle us into paying $1,000 extra more than we needed to due to the trade in having a tire size issue when the whole time this particular car had different size stocks in the front and back for performance and is to be that way on purpose. He lowered our trade in value and said the extra 1k difference had to be outta pocket. No card scanners in sight. We were then moved to a new salesman/business manager after waiting for 30 minutes in the lobby. Our question was brought to attention, the new guy went and came back and said he has no idea why that charge would be there and told us it was not to be worried about. We also asked about the 3 month free customary on the house warranty that Dartanian told us and had us sign, to come and find out we didnt even qualify for the warranty due to the mercedes miles being over 80k. We felt like Dartanian was being sketchy and unprofessional the whole time because after the other man had helped us, Dartanian was visibly trying to avoid us because he lost out on the pocket cash. Other than this single individual the experience and overall dealership was very nice. Please be careful and do not try to by a car with this man!

AJ Listened carefully; I never had to repeat myself once. Listening shows respect, and that is why I enjoyed working with him. He worked out a deal that I am happy with. Thank you, AJ for a great leasing experience, and I look forward to working with you in the future.

have never had an issue with Bob Penkhus before this time. I brought my car in for brake work and while the car was in Bob Penkhus’ possession, 3 credit cards were stolen from inside my car and used all over Colorado Springs. Thankfully I have fraud protection but when I asked to speak with the manager he was dismissive and refused to believe that it was their fault that my car had things stolen from it while in their possession. Not only did he “100% guarantee it wasn’t one of my workers” but also did not apologize or offer any insight to what may have happened. I have to wait for the police to finish their investigation now but I will no longer be using Bob Penkus for buying any new cars or service. Make sure you don’t leave anything in your car since they obviously have someone getting into people’s cars and stealing from you!

Went in just browsing used vehicles. Sage approached, asking what I was looking for and what my budget was. He says he gets paid on car count, not cost, so he's not incentivized to sell me something more expensive. I told him what I want and he starts pitching me on a vehicle 35% over my budget. He explained that all of their vehicles are rigorously inspected before hitting the lot. We test drive the vehicle, and I'm not even out of the parking lot before it starts making noise from the front drivers side wheel casing. When we get back to the lot I say I'm not buying today, but I'll consider it if the wheel issue was fixed, but I want to do more research. Sage gets Mike who is the epitomy of sleasy high pressure used car salesman. I tell him no repeatedly for half an hour before finally walking out. Upon getting home I found 5 local vehicles of the same type +/- 2 years and +/- 15,000 miles all for $1500-3000 cheaper. I don't need to be pressure sold into your overpriced crap.

Yes, your copy/pasted generic response just screams "I care". I'll save my business for the people who actually do. Thanks.
Was working with a salesman named Nick. Said he would send me the car sticker with estimated shipping cost on 01/08. I followed up on 01/09 as I hadn’t heard back. He apologized and promised to send it later this day. 01/10 and still nothing. I reach out and followed up again only to find out he sold the car car. Totally fine, but it is basic customer service to at least shoot somebody a text or email and let them know the car they’re interested in is no longer available, instead of leaving them waiting. Used up two days waiting around when I could’ve closed another deal. Would not recommend this dealer, especially Nick

I recently purchased a 2023 Mazda CX-30 from this dealership. I was looking for something specific and I originally went in to see a car I saw on Cars.com, but this vehicle didn’t have a sunroof, which was advertised has having a sunroof on that site. This was an important feature for me, and I wasn’t interested in buying a 2024 that had a sunroof. After I left, Leroy and the Sales Manager came up with a couple options. They found a 2023 at a different dealership (Broomfield) that was not advertised on Cars.com and this was the car I ended up purchasing. Leroy was honest and upfront with the fees/charges, and although I don’t like the mandatory Theft Guard charge (I was told it could not be taken off), I don’t believe this is a reflection on Leroy (it is a Mazda mandatory charge—one they need to make optional). I also would have liked the car to be cleaned a bit better (a little dusty/dirt in spots for the interior, and a wipe down after it was washed to take away the water spots), but doesn't change my experience rating. I highly recommend working with Leroy if you visit this dealership.
