Ok buying experience, poor customer service

After driving several hours to purchase a vehicle that ended up not working out, we ended up here after seeing minivan on their website-wouldn't really even talk over the phone about it..tactic worked as it got us there. Wouldn't negotiate much of price, salesman was pushy rude and then aplogized for laughing at offer as he didn't know what the advetise price was. Jose treated us fairly but he wasn't really our assigned salesman but wish he had been. They very much push their financing on you but did match our rate. Salesman lied about fixing armrest.cupholders that were broken-changed his mind as were signing paperwork stating that wasn't what he said. Also said they would mail us the rod to hold the hood up as it was missing and never did. If it hadn't been a 13 hour day from start with four kids in tote we would have walked. We were in state of desperation, in end has been a good van just not a very nice buying experience. The purchasing process when quickly, I was amazed at the amount of traffic and sales they seemed to be making. They did allow for the rental van to be picked up there would went fine. Overall...decent price, get anything specific in writing as memory is short there.

I originally went in on a weekend to test drive a new car, and was irritated by the pushy sales BS so I decided to wait and think things over and maybe look into other dealerships (red flag #1). When I looked into other dealerships I found better prices and less pushy salesman (red flag #2). The lower prices were not something Elgin was interested in matching or coming back with something competitve - as this dealer was only interested in playing games, pointing fingers and saying things about other dealers (red flag #3). I finally told them I wasn't interested and to leave me alone, but they kept contacting me (big red flag #4). In the end, I purchased from a completely different local dealership where the sales folks were extremely helpful, no pushy tactics, did not focus on the name game and pointing fingers at other dealerships and really did give me the best deal possible on my new car and trade. This all took less than an hour whereas the first round of disaster at Elgin Toyota was about two hours long, plus another full day of e-mail. At the end of the day you purchase a car where you feel most comfortable and that you are getting the best deal. I didn't get any of that from Elgin, just a myriad of red flags so I went elsewhere. And, while my experience at Elgin was probably the worst I have ever had, someone else may have different experiences with different sales folks. This is just about my particular experience.

Great experience

Tancho at Elgin Toyota was very friendly and knowledgeable. We had gotten an internet price on a car and when we arrived he promptly had it brought around. He didn't try to show us anything else. He answered any questions we had. The only slight problem we had was with the finance guy. We didn't ask the right questions and ended up with a different payment plan than we wanted. However, after one phone call to him it was changed. I would not hesitate to buy from Elgin Toyota again!

hmmmmmph

went to look at and purchase a car here for my uncle. Noticing that we were indian...the only indian salesman approached using thinking he can trick us...obviously didnt happen. We than looked at the cars we were interested in, test drove them, and sat down to make a deal. He told us the msrp price they had on the car and I told him there is no way im paying that price and told him that we need to negotiate. He did not say a single word and told us to get out. I said excuse me? and once again he said Get Out! we left instantly. the manager called me about 5 times after i left and told me to come back and they can make a great deal with us. I told him that after being disrespected like that i wouldn't even take a car from free if he were to give it to me. We directly went to lombard toyota, were treated like gods, and instantly made a purchase and received an unbelievable deal.

Dealer response

We certainly apologize for the miscommunication regarding our negotiation process. We have a very aggressive pricing program and are known to be price leaders in our community. At any time we would like to invite you and your family to meet with the management team to take personal care of pricing and delivery of your new car.

I was in the market for a mini van and had narrowed my search down to either a Honda Odessey or an Toyota Sienna. I had test driven both and preferred the Sienna, but could have gone with either vehicle. I had concerns with negative comments I had heard about the local Honda dealership and when I visited Toyota I was pleased with how attentive they were. The whole purchase experience was made quite easy. They found the exact vehicle I wanted and offered me a fair price and a fair trade-in on my first visit to the dealership. I had gone to take one more test drive and to get their beat price, so my wife and I could make a final decision. Instead, thanks to Carlos being prepared to make a sale and making the process easy and efficient, I made a purchase. I returned the next day to pick up the vehicle and I'm now the happy owner of a Sienna. I look forward to having the same excellent experience with the service department in the future.

A patern of asking 1000 for Certified for all used

I had the same experience like the Disappointed buyer -- they want an additional 1000 for Certified. They lower the price only to get us there but want the same amount of money by removing the Certified on it and ask for the extra money. They have vehicals sitting in their lot for more than 90 and unable to sell. They want some unsuspecting, nive person to buy from them. I you are nive than, you can buy one.

Regid, poor businessmanship and claim no margin

Regid, poor businessmanship and claim no margin, and this happened twice. Do not want to negotiate the price and saleman does not want to work on the actual price but puts his efforts trying to sell the extended warranty.

The Service Department at Elgin Toyota is an unsung hero of the operation. I've been bringing my cars here for 11 years and am very pleased. While I have 2-3 other Toyota stores closer to me, I go to Elgin because I have confidence in their work. And that was a major factor in my recently purchasing my new Venza at Elgin Toyota. I picked Elgin in large part because I wanted to continue a strong relationship that makes me feel good about my investment. I've come to know Darryl Cesario over many years and everything I've ever asked of him has been taken care of with dispatch and professionalism. I rely on my vehicles, I benefit from taking care of them, the Highlander I traded had 233,000 miles on it...and Elgin Toyota is a strong partner in my goals.
