Better experience elsewhere
Barnes Crossing mega-group is a high volume high profit full brand dealership network with several stores in the Tupelo/Saltillo area. This review is for Barnes Crossing Mitsubishi. Let me preface with full disclosure. A close family member actually works at this dealership so that makes it even harder to write this. But this is not meant as an attack or smear job, mainly a word of advice to the unwary. I trade cars very often, actually have bought 2 at this same dealership, and have found that unfortunately to get a better deal, one needs to leave the Tupelo/Saltillo area and drive to either Tennessee or Alabama to find a dealer market that wants to compete for your dollar. The Tupelo auto dealership market, most of whom have invested in lavish and modern top-notch facilities that must be paid for, apparently get together and decide with a gentlemen's agreement, that they are going to overprice everything at least 2-3 thousand over fair market value, and they will not make a deal for a customer with their own financing. Barnes Crossing is no exception. In observation and talking with other people I know who are customers, (since Barnes Crossing is a giant of auto sales in this area, many people buy from them) I imagine most sales are likely made on 'payment amount' only where the buyer, who may be at the mercy of low-credit lending, has no idea what extra charges he will be paying over the long run in rate and fee, which leads to nice profit on the dealer side. Here's what you need to know: 1. Expect to wait. A LOT of waiting to wear you down. Both times we bought here, it turned into an all-day adventure. Make sure you clear your plans for the afternoon. 2. Woe be unto ye if you don't check the online pricing first before you go onto their lot to ask about a car. 3. The online price is not the REAL price. ADD $450 immediately for hidden dealer 'paperwork' fees and don't expect to get it for any less. Their tacked-on fluff fees are apparently untouchable, etched into marble, prayed to daily, and more important than the next breath of oxygen. Every sale comes with a sad story that they only have a minimal profit in the car, maybe a couple of hundred, and can't afford to negotiate because they are at "bare bones". I can attest after talking to 2 people I know who have listed their cars for sale by owner then traded in to BC, that this dealership low-balled them on their trade amount and sold the same trucks on their lot at thousands over blue book. So, much like other successful dealerships, don't fool yourself into thinking they would acquire these vehicles to sell unless they are confident they can make a solid profit on them. After an arduous wait and a draining ticky-tacky haggle process, I did actually buy the car for my wife, but I will NOT buy another one from them. I actually am getting ready to buy another truck and would rather cut off a limb than give these people any more of my time or money. There are too many other places that do business in a way that gets you in and out in a timely manner and with a price you feel good about. Good luck buyers!
