Dishonest Sales Tactics

Trinity M at Santa Cruz/Capitola Subaru is completely untrustworthy and misleading in her dealings. I told her that we had an offer on an Impreza for MSRP at another dealer, but her dealership had the color that we preferred. I told her that unless she was negotiable on the price ($2500 over MSRP) that we would not be interested in purchasing the car from them since her dealership is 1.5hrs/each way from our home (3hr RT). Trinity told me that they would work with us on the price and that they had sold a car just yesterday at MSRP. Well, after driving to the dealership, she could only offer $200 off of the $2500 over MSRP and said that the other dealership was lying to us if they can sell a car at MSRP. Needless to say, this was a complete waste of our time. I called the Sales Manager and informed him of our disappointment at how Trinity misled us and he told us that if we had talked to him first, he would have told us not to drive down since they are not negotiable on the additional $$$ cost over MSRP due to low inventory!

Great service at Santa Cruz Subaru!

If you go to the service department of Santa Cruz Subaru know that you are in good hands. Russ, the service writer was a great help. Not only did they service my Subaru, I mention to Russ that the road noise while driving, was louder than it use to be. After inspecting the car they found a bad wheel bearing. They replaced the wheel bearing and the noise is gone. I purched the car there and have always had it serviced there. They have always been fair and straight with me. you can go to them and they will meet your needs.

Disappointed with the experience

shopping for a new car shouldn't be this much hassle. I contacted Santa Cruz Subaru's for specific color/package Outback. the internet manager sent me a quote, I liked the priced that was quoted. I went to sign the agreements and receive the car. When we were going through the car features, we found out the driver door panel and paint had a few scratches. Keep in mind this is supposed to be a brand new car. Anyway, we agreed to have them fix the paint scratches and have it delivered to us in a week. The car was scheduled to be readu and delivered to us on August 11th. but I did not hear anything from Santa Cruz Subaru so I decided to call and find out. when I called, I was told that they found some more scratches on the back of the car and they were not able to deliver it on that day. I was very unhappy with this whole thing, I told them that I did not buy a used car. I decided to have the contract cancelled. I was told that they will send me the down payment check by next day, but it has been over a week and still have not received my down payment back from Santa Cruz Subaru. I will never buy a car from this dealership.

One key...only?

My mother of 83 years old, bought a used car from you..with one key...only? Aren't there usually two...regardless of used or not? She's upset...and not much into asking for much...other than a spare??

Dealer response

Thank you for your feedback. With used cars we only have available what the previous owner provided to us. Most of are used cars only have one key and usually no owners manuals. We make every effort possible to contact previous owners or the company we purchased the car from to get spares. Sometimes we receive spares weeks or months after. I would be happy to check in to see if we have received a key. Please contact me at evans@santacruzsubaru.com if you would like me to check.

Poor Unreasonable Service

Intent to purchase a used SUV viewed on Cars.com, I contacted Internet Director, Ricardo Guitierrez at this Subaru dealership. After inspecting and driving the vehicle, I pointed out several issues identified on the car: spider webbing across entire exterior paint surface, stained seating and other upholstery, damaged rear lower bumper cover, missing floor mats, obvious scratches around ignition switch and ants wandering inside vehicle due to aged candy left in pocket of rear driver’s seat. I would think most of this should’ve been covered during the detailing phase of the used vehicle. However, I was willing to overlook these issues as Ricardo explained we could work something out (price). Ricardo was made aware that I had options to buy elsewhere but I chose to visit the closer site having apprehensions to drive the long distance to the other location. We agreed to be in contact shortly. After searching the Internet to determine the cost to purchase floor mats and replace the damaged bumper cover, I sent a text to Ricardo with offer of $20,500 (of course, expecting a counter offer). Instead I receive a response that $21,918 is the best he could do. ??? The vehicle was already listed at this price. Did I miss something in this negotiation and his intent to “work something out?” I’ve decided to travel 200 miles further to purchase an identical vehicle for $20,847 which is certified as a pre-owned vehicle and is in pristine condition. Thanks Ricardo for teaching me not to settle when there’s much better product out there, along with higher quality customer service. 1 star was rated overall because he was willing to speak with me and show me the vehicle.

Ask for Jeff Filiault

I worked with Jeff Filiault from Subaru of Santa Cruz to finance a used Crosstrek Hybrid, which is the first car I have ever owned. I had already done my research, test driven the vehicle several times, and had two cars of the same model bought out from under me. So when I went to Jeff, he did not have to press hard to sell me. In fact, he never really pressed at all. The guy was outstanding! I was trying to juggle financing with a remote cosigner, as well as buying from a distant city and only being able to manage weekend visits. Jeff helped me every step of the way. He held the vehicle for a whole week after I gave a soft commitment, and facilitated sending the paperwork to my cosigner several states away overnight (and near the holidays). After the purchase was squared away, he even drove over 40 minutes to pick me up from where I live and bring me to the dealership, all after business hours. I really felt like Jeff and Subaru of Santa Cruz had my back throughout the whole process, and I would definitely buy from them again. Tip: Do not buy any extended warranty, especially when financing. I love this dealer, but this is where they make massive margins.
