One recommendation would be in the communication aspect. I received emails only on status updates and/or additional data needed. This is great, but if someone is actively monitoring their inbox, this could lead to unnecessary delays. Making an outreach via a mobile device would guarantee that the customer is fully aware of whatever the given status and/or question is being requested.
