I purchased a new vehicle, the exterior was dirty. The buying process took an extended amount of time. There was confusion on whether I would need to take a different car until the money cleared. They ran a credit check when I was financing through the bank.

I was very pleased with the service. The only concern I had was the strong smell after the throttle cleaning. David McCauley did everything possible to elevate the strong smell. It did eventually go away.

A Warning to Consumers: My Experience with Stewart Chevrolet in Colma I feel compelled to share my experience to protect other consumers from what I believe to be dishonest and predatory practices at Stewart Chevrolet in Colma. My wife and I were misled, overcharged, and nearly forced into an unnecessary $15,000 repair or a new vehicle purchase under false pretenses. Here’s what happened: I brought my Chevy Spark EV (58K miles) into Stewart Chevrolet after it suddenly lost power while driving. After their diagnostic test, service representative William Dea informed me that my high-voltage battery was “completely dead” and required a full replacement for $15,000—with no alternative solution. I was given two choices: pay for the repair or buy a new car from them. When I expressed concern, they had a salesperson pressure me into purchasing another vehicle, claiming my Spark was worthless as a trade-in. Feeling trapped, I spent a week desperately seeking solutions—contacting GM, Carvana, Chevrolet, DMV, and consumer protection agencies—all while my vehicle sat at their service center. Then, William Dea called me demanding I retrieve my car immediately or face a $250/day storage fee on top of their already hefty service charge. Their only concern was collecting more money, not helping a customer in distress. Thankfully, a knowledgeable EV specialist saw my online listing to sell the car for parts and reached out. He suspected the issue could be fixed with a simple software update—a procedure outlined in the vehicle’s official service manual. When I went to pick up my car, Stewart Chevrolet charged me $750 for their so-called “diagnostics,” which only consisted of reading error codes and testing the 12V battery. They refused to negotiate the fee, citing their "expertise." I towed the car across the street, where the EV expert reset the system, updated the software, and within minutes, the car was back to life and charging properly—a solution that cost me only $300 for a new 12V battery instead of $15,000 for a replacement high-voltage battery. Frustrated and seeking accountability, I drove the fully operational Spark EV back to Stewart Chevrolet to confront them. Their response? Smirks, dismissiveness, and refusal to acknowledge their mistake. They showed no interest in hearing how the issue was resolved using their own service manual’s instructions. This is not just incompetence—it is blatant deception and fraud. Stewart Chevrolet has yet to make this right. If you don’t see an update below stating that they have refunded my money in full, that means they chose not to. Their scripted online responses do nothing to resolve the real issue. Stewart Chevrolet, make this right. Refund my money. Consumers deserve honesty, not deception.

The 2015 Spark EV in question was diagnosed by a Union, GM EV Certified technician. It’s official diagnosis was the variance is in excess of .07 Voltage discrepancy in the battery cells. Per General Motors document #17-NA-131 the only available labor operation is 9102972. Drive Motor Replacement and Shipping Preparation. Our own in house General Motors World Class Technician was questioned separately concerning the matter for safety he agrees with GM concerning this diagnosis. General Motors own Field Service Engineer (FSE) was questioned again separately. Each party agrees with the only GM official diagnosis.GM is in fact applying the only viable fix of labor operation 9102972 to all variances over .03.This is a safety concern. As a General Motors franchise dealer and repair facility we would never endanger a consumer with an unauthorized fix concerning a product like a high voltage battery. If the consumer wishes to risk the safety of themselves, their passengers, and anyone else near the vehicle when it’s charging or not that is not something we can recommend.
