Disparaging experience.
Disparaging experience. I made a Saturday 9am appointment to potentially purchase a G wagon for my bride. After setting the appointment they proceeded to call me an additional 6 more times to confirm it. Left multiple voicemails stating such as well as texted and emailed to confirm. Very strange. One call the day before, okay. 6? Plus texting. I hate texting. They should ask permission first. Texting is personal. I make appointments all week. I guess no one shows up there. In either case, upon my arrival, I see the truck I made the appointment to see is in outside but inside and on the showroom floor. I am introduced to a salesperson who did not know my name. When I asked why they called and texted so many times to confirm the appointment but did not prepare for it I got no answer. The salesperson did offer to have it taken outside and then started moving some cars but there were people everywhere and I thought that was rude to the other sales associates trying to earn and felt bad. It also placed a lot of unwanted and unsolicited attention on me. Not a good feeling. Made me look kind of arrogant. Then they go to turn the key and the thing is dead. They get a jump pack but the kids dont not know how to use it, so I helped. We got it started and the salesman tells me that he will meet me in front with it in a minute. I wait 10 but he never shows up!! Someone eventually comes out and says it died out back and they can't show it to me. They did bring around another eventually for me to test drive, but it was now around 10am. Then the same salesman who did not remember my name invites me into an empty unlit room and try's to close me on a dead car that they did not have ready for me and were now all pushing past the window! Asks me to pay 150 for it even though it doesn't run! Never mind its only worth 125. He says it is barely driven and only a year old. It had 28k on it in a year I said, "barely driven????" More like to Florida and back 14 times in a year. He then says let me get you the best price on it, disappears, returns and says 149! Hahhahhahahhah. I ask how much is a new one and he says they add 25k to new ones because they don't sell at sticker and would not order me one. Thats the "Ray way" he says. I replied that I needed a day to think about it and look at the market because I did not think vehicles were still selling over sticker. Its not covid anymore and all my friends are waiting on an election, after swapping candidates and an assignation attempt. Not only did the salesman not offer me his card, but he also never even followed up. No call the next day. No thank you "text". Sure. He does not want YOU having HIS personal number. Had he called later on and said that they replaced the battery, and the truck was all good I MAY have gone back. MAY. But of course, he didn't. As a matter of fact, he never called me at all, not ever. No follow up. Nothing. Like I didn't matter. 150K, 25 over sticker, and no apology for being unprepared. Nothing. Didn't even catch me circling the Maybach. Asks me if I'm trading my Rover 30 times though, that he saw. Funny. The Edison Porsche guys were spectacular gentleman, and it was an awesome experience from these guys. What a night and day experience from the same brand. Catena. Hahhahhahah In any case. After researching, they were way high. So, I called Lambo, and they delivered my wife a Urus. She loves it. Egos too big here. About a week later the same woman who harassed me to make sure I was coming called me to follow up but when I tried to tell her how the salesman never even called me that the car was running, so I bought elsewhere she just hung up. Click! WOW how the mighty have fallen. What a low-class experience. When you make an appointment at Vuitton, they have champagne ready. This is more of a buy here pay here experience. My 19yo behaves more professionally. Save tour time. Go where they value you. Last time they secretly sold me a buyback. This time was just as abusive

Thank you for this lengthy explanation of your visit. I appreciate the information about the texting. There seems to be a completely different story regarding the experience from the salesperson and the sales mgr. If you would like to speak with me directly you may do so at 73-339-6800, ext 6854 Enjoy the Lambo!

Ray Catena of Freehold - Mercedes-Benz Dealership responded PRIVATELY on 8/21/24 7:24 PM the car is now listed online for 148,995 - one thousand dollars less than what we said we would sell it for no where near the 130k you offered.
Please stop replying. The extension you left does not exist. But I did call and left you a voicemail anyway, by asking for thew person who replies here, but since you avoided my call, I left you a Google review as well.

I'm sorry but your definitely mistaken me for a different customer. Not me that's not what vehicle was there for
I brought my car there for service on several occasions
I brought my car there for service on several occasions since buying it new in 2019. I have not one bad word to say about the service department or the service people. Taylor is the gentleman that helped me each time honestly without him I don’t know how smooth or rough things could have been. I dreamed about having a convertible Mercedes all my life after 60 years I was able to buy one. when I started going there, my grandson was 14 years old and everybody treated him so good that whenever I had to go back, he felt like he was going to visit family. Stephanie who worked up in the front treated him so kind that he loves her for giving him a teddy bear and a Ray Catina Mercedes hat. from the salesman all the way up through Service I have no complaints at all and I want to thank each and everyone of them for the kindness and professionalism that they show each of their customers when they arrive. My grandson still comes with me sometimes.

Thank you so much for your kind words about Stephanie. We value and appreciate your business in sales and service!! Thank you so much
Good morning Michael, I just reviewed your service records with us and found that you were not charged for a brake fluid flush or wheel alignment during your visit in January. You were only charged for the oil change, which is the basis for your service appointment with us. We had recommended a 4 wheel alignment, along with 4 tires due to wear. (All 4 tires are at the minimum thickness for safety.) We have not recommended a brake fluid flush since 2023, at which time you declined that service. The only other item that has been recommended was a replacement of the seals on your front engine cover, due to leaking oil. We did not recommend any diagnosis time for this repair, only the time to complete said repair. If you have any other concerns, please feel free to contact us at 732-339-6820, and we would be happy to answer any questions that you may have. Thank you
And your comments about Taylor are wildly appreciated as well. Thank you so much for your business!
On January 9th 2024 I attempted to buy a 2020 Mercedes
On January 9th 2024 I attempted to buy a 2020 Mercedes S-560 from Ray Catena of Freehold. The purchase was online and over the phone, We had agreed on the purchase price of the car and I was arraigning shipping to Grand Junction Colorado. Because the car was being shipped out of state I am not required to pay New Jersey State sales tax. Well, first they attempted to charge me New Jersey tax and when I pointed out that they can't do that they removed the New Jersey sales tax. However, I am required to pay Colorado state sales tax when I register the car in Colorado. However, the dealership insisted that they collect Colorado state sales taxes for some reason. This is not their responsibility! New Jersey is not a reciprocal state with Colorado and I was told by the Motor Vehicle Division of my county to not pay Colorado Sales taxes to the dealership. I have bought 2 other cars out of state before and this is how it works. I am required to pay the price of the car plus D&H. It made no sense for them to want to collect Colorado state taxes in New Jersey. I am pretty sure that Colorado would have never seen one penny of that and the motor vehicle department here agreed. Basically, it was just real sleazy. So, I terminated the sale when they insisted on collecting Colorado Sales Taxes.

"Gunfighter" I am sorry you are so terribly misinformed. No one was ever collecting NJ tax from you. The dealership was collecting the Colorado tax only. If you didnt spend so much time talking over everyone and using foul language in your emails trying to bully a dealership with an owner who has been in the business for over 65 years you would have known this to be the case. Our dealerships comply with all state and federal rules regarding sales tax. The deal that was worked for you satisfied the Colorado tax which we would have supplied proof to you to process your own motor vehicle. I dont really care where you bought cars before. This store in this auto group follows all tax guidlelines strictly. John, Matt and the rest of my team were nothing but forthcoming and professional with you and informed you every step of the way. I take offense to you describing us as "sleazy". Describing your own behavior in my opinion. Car has since been sold. Good luck to you.
I read the emails you sent to John. Perhaps on the initial pencil when no one knew you were in Colorado yes But the last deal that was presented to you has the state(2.9%), county(2%) and some PSI (publix safety improvement .37%) tax Colorado collects. My MV clerk spent alot of time on this getting the exact percentages for you so we could finalize the deal. If you want to do business with our auto group we comply with all federal and state tax guidelines. We do not leave it up to the customer to satisfy sales tax out of state because if they are not paid the responsibility untimately falls on the dealership. The fact that you implied we would take the money and never pay the tax was insulting and unprofessional! We would have collected the Colorado tax for our files and sent to the clerk in Colorado for you to process your plates. You and the clerk at Colorado are on the other side of the country and are clearly not aware of the stellar repuation our owners have in this industry. We appreciate your consideration and like I said the car has since been sold. Have a good day
The initial error was on the desk manager unaware that you were out of state. I am not insisting on anything. It is the policy of the auto group that we satisfy the sales tax in the registered state because as I explained if they are not paid properly in full the liability falls on the dealership. We do not waver on this issue. Im sorry it did not work out. We have had no snow yet thank goodness.
Excuse me but no one ever used any foul language. Also, I have a copy of an Invoice that clearly shows you trying to collect New Jersey State sales tax of $6,247.81. You have a copy too (Deal #539770 dated 01/09/2024). Also, you are not required to collect Colorado State taxes. New Jersey is not a reciprocal state of Colorado according to our Motor Vehical Department. So, please explane to everyone reading this why ypu were trying to collect Colorado sales taxes from me when you were told that I have to pay Colorados sales taxes when I register the the car in Colorado.!!
?
"Perhaps on the initial pencil when no one knew you were in Colorado yes" So you didn't know I live in Colorado? Serously? My address is on the form you emailed me showing 8.6 % Sales tax. Where did that number come from??? Certainly not Colorado! To your credit you removed it when I pointed it out. But it should have never been there to begin with. I am sorry for using the word "sleazy" but thats how it felt when you were trying to collect Colorado sales tax from me when you were told by our Motor Vehicle Department that it is my responsibility to pay Colorado sales taxes when I register the car here. Not yours! All you had to do was charge me the agreed upon price and D & H and the car would be on its way to me and everyone would be happy. I was perfically happy with you and the dealership untill it came to you insisting that you had to collect Colorado sales taxes. Once again "IT IS NOT YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO COLLECT COLORADO SALES TAX" New Jersey is not a recipocal state with Colorado. I really wanted that car. However, it was wrong for you to try and collect Colorado state taxes from me when you were told it was my responsiblilty to pay the taxes here, It's that simple. Have a nice day, hopefully the rain and snow has ended. I am sure that whomever you sold the car to will enjoy it. It was a beautiful car and it is my loss. However, this event has soured me so much on Mercedes that we have decided to buy a new Acura LTX Type S. Have a nice weekend.

I have leased many vehicles in my life and never felt as comfortable and relaxed as I have when working with Chris Russo! His curtesy, insight, demeaner and most of all his character are what brings us back to Ray Catena for another lease! The entire experience at Ray Catena, from meeting the staff at the front desk, to being acknowledged by the General Manager (Ms. Farrell), to going over the vehicle with Vinnie and ultimately working with a Sales Representative like Chris was nothing short of amazing! I can honestly say that I consider Chris a friend at this point - that's how comfortable he always makes us feel! Thank you Ray Catena of Freehold and thank you Chris!!

I had a great experience with this dealership!Cristal helped to find the perfect car for us! She took the time to listen to our needs and budget, and contacted me as soon as she had one available. We loved being able to look at it and test drive it without being rushed, and everything went smooth without stress. Our experience at Ray Catena of Freehold was so much better, easier, and faster than at a major dealership, and we will definitely go back the next time we need a car.
