Honest Group/Was Treated Well
I bought a Toyota Rav4 August 2023 and had a good experience. I researched used cars for and settled on a Rav4 for its reliability. I then checked the repair history of Rav4s and settled on a couple of years that seemed to have few serious problems. I couldn't out find a suitable one in Charlottesville, Richmond or in the Washington area. Checked the reviews online for CarCity in Fredricksburg and had itgenerally good reviews with a few disgruntled reviewers. I am always an suspicious of a review board that has only excellent reviews. There was no sales pressure at all. The price was reasonable and a short test drive didn't show any issues. So I paid cash and got the papers for the sale. I didn't take the car then because my son was working and couldn't come with me for that day. When I returned to pick up the car they told me that the air conditioning wasn't working properly so they needed to get it repaired first. They were doing the normal clean up of the when they noticed the problem and tried to contact me before I left home. They repaired the aircon at no charge to me. That made a good impression of the character of the people running the business.

Traded in for a Nissan after Hyundai overheated
Kayla is what makes this place worth it. I don’t know what they would do without her. She is by far the most superior employee there and the best one to communicate with as her customer services skills are great, you can tell she’s the main one who cares about the customers.

CarCity is a scam
Fast talking salesman if you have any questions about the car they tell you don't worry about it they will fix it before you drive off even if you have to come back a later date. They didn't fix anything, my steering wheel was cracked on the inside I got into a car werk with a park car because I had no control over my steering wheel. This what you get for $6,000 down payment with a car note, they said they fixed it and for free but never fixed it. you have any questions about a warranty they don't know? Don't get their in house warranty it's a scam. They don't help you only take your money. Anything wrong with the car they say they fixed it, they'll wash it, shine it up and say it's done but don't show you paper work on what they repair. Not a good experience do not go there the guy who was doing the paperwork for the cars couldn't explain it and then come to find out he quit the next day he knew that was wrong he know what they was doing in there (scamming people) don't go there only had my car for 5 months and after driving for a week problems came up.

To the public. These last 2 reviews are the same person putting 2 reviews. I apologize for my reply. I have tried repeatedly to help this customer and everything I have done and everything I have offered is never enough. I cannot emphasize enough that I have spent hours upon hours listening to her "issues". What a regret that we tried to help this young lady and it has turned into a horror story and has cost us so much time and money. The vehicle she bought was a 2012 Chevy Cruze with 155,000 miles. 6 months after she bought it, I installed a new engine free of charge with only 66,000 miles on it. That was not even enough! What dealership would put in a new engine 4 months after a customer purchased a perfectly good car. She has a full 2 year warranty and is even putting bad reviews on them because the mechanic she brought the car to did not know how to open a warranty claim and the warranty company denied the claim because the information they received from the mechanic was wrong. I am being blamed for everything under the sun that has gone wrong with thus womans life and I have been such a great dealer that I have offered to do so much to assist her. It is just never enough and there comes a point where I cannot keep spending hours of time for someone who is never going to be satisfied. So I have no choice but to defend my store. It’s truly a shame that one person, being completely dishonest, wants to try and hurt a great reputable dealer who truly cares about their customers and the vehicles we sell. I won’t even acknowledge the reviewer. I am writing this for all potential customers is for people who read this review. What is being says is close to slander and libel. This is the reason Car City got out of selling $5,000 cars. Because some people have completely unrealistic expectations when they are buying a much older high mike vehicle. However. even with this persons unrealistic expectation, I still offered to assist in several different ways. One. I offered to help her open a claim with the warranty company after her mechanic made an error that no true mechanic should ever make. He never even read what her warranty covered and just called the warranty and said a part failed that was not even a part the warranty covers. There were 20 other things he could have said that are covered but since he never read the warranty, he got her claim denied. I offered to call the warranty company and I would make sure I did everything I could for the warranty to cover her repair. 2. I offered to trade her out if the older high mileage vehicle into something newer. I said I would take a loss on her trade in just to make her happy. I sent her a link and said to let me know any vehicles she might like. She did not want to fill out the credit app so there was no way for me to get her a loan without the information. 3rd. I stated very clearly I was willing to assist her, however, dealerships generally do not repair vehicles free of charge that were purchased 6 months prior. I paid for and installed a new motor, free of charge and now this still is not enough. I am truly baffled and this is why so many dealers do not help people after the sale. Because people like this will demand free work or they will put dishonest reviews all over the internet. Please read my google reviews. She has 2 false reviews there as well. This customer first came to me a month after she purchased the vehicle with a minor issue and I fixed that free of charge.. Even though she agreed to purchase the vehicle completely as-is, she still called me a month later begging for help. Ok. I had her bring it in and I repaired it 100% free of charge. Since then, every minor thing that would be common minor repairs on any 10+ year old vehicle, this customer is calling the dealership, the sales person and me. Literally several times a day, all the time. I tried to be nice and explain that when you purchases pre-owned older vehicle with very high mileage, there are things that are going to come up that will need to be repaired. I tried to nicely explain that dealerships selling these older high mileage much cheaper vehicles do not keep doing minor repairs for months and months after the sale. That she will need to find a reasonable mechanic that if something needs to be repaired, they will not take advantage of her. Since she lives in Maryland (one of the strictest state inspections in the country and her vehicle passed state inspection when she brought it there shortly after she purchased it), it would not make much sense for her to use us to do her repairs. There are many statements that she made in her review that are flat out incorrect or extremely exaggerated, but I do not want to go into them all. I just want to say that there comes a point where a dealerships kindness starts being taken advantage of and Car City had already bent over backwards for this customer. I would rather accept this negative review and move forward selling to the other 70 customers who purchase from us a month who are extremely satisfied. Car City has an excellent reputation and we always are willing to assist a customer if something pops up after the sale within a reasonable amount of time and mileage. Even after that, Car City still wants to assist our customers, however, a reasonable person understands that when you purchase a vehicle from a dealership, whether it be from a large franchise store or a smaller independent store, the vehicle does not come with unlimited free repairs for months and months after the vehicle was purchased. Because I finally had to explain to this customer how reasonable people conduct themselves, she is now giving us a 1 star review 6 months later because I am offering to assist her, but it’s not exactly the assistance she wants. Remember. I already fixed her vehicle free of charge. She has an extended warranty and I offered to assist her in opening a claim. I also offered to lose money in order to trade her out of her car and get her into something newer with less miles. Everything I did was not enough. At this point I have lost over $4,000 to sell this person a vehicle. I have 2 bad reviews that she keeps posting all over the internet. I have customers I am probably losing because of her false reviews and she is actually hurting people that probably need Car City to assist them in getting a good vehicle but just because she has unrealistic expectations, people will read her lies and not come here. We are an excellent dealership and we always help all our customers. Please do not judge us on people like this. Please judge us on the other 600 5 star reviews we have received over the last 4 years. I do apologize about my words, but I have no choice but to defend my great dealership. Please give us a chance and judge for yourself who we truly are as a dealership. Are we the 600 5-star reviews or the few 1 star reviews. You do not even have to come in. Just give us a call and you will be able to tell the truth. I know once you call Car City, you will see how nice and friendly we are and how we are always willing to go above and beyond for everyone.
