I purchased my Kia Niro EV (Electric Vehicle) 4 years ago from Jake Sweeney Kia in Florence. As an "EV", the car requires little maintenance, with the exception of tire rotations. My previous experiences with Jake Sweeney Service have been positive. However, this visit was different. When Jake Sweeney attempts to sell you a new vehicle, they offer a "Jake Sweeney Lifetime Mechanical Protection" at no additional cost. The catch is "***** ALL SERVICE AND MAINENANCE MUST BE PERFORMED AT JAKE SWEENEY AUTOMOTIVE*****". This sounds like a very beneficial perk offered with the purchase of a new car. I especially thought this to be a useful offer as my Kia Niro EV, should the main battery require replacement after the factory warranty (3 to 10 years or 100K miles), could be up to $20K! So, my previous Jake Sweeney Service visits were, basically tire rotations and, on 7/30/24, a cabin filter replacement totaling $108.16. This brings me to my visit of 12/3/25. You must have the service performed within the manufacturers recommendations, or this also voids the warranty offered by Jake Sweeney. Again, tire rotation and cabin filter. Well, my tires were the original factory tires. At over 47K miles, I was noticing some decreased traction, especially with wet roads. So, I opted to purchase new tires. Again, the tires MUST be purchased from Jake Sweeney Service (ALL SERVICE). I compared the same factory original tires (Michelin Tires) with Tire Discounters. The tires were over $450 more from Jake Sweeney. Of note, when scheduling my service visit, I asked it I could replace the cabin filter myself as Jake Sweeney charged me $33 for the previous filter, plus labor to install it. I was told it was okay if I did it myself. We'll upon my visit, I was confronted by 4 different service reps informing me this is not allowed and will void their protection plan. They did waive cancellation, because I was "misinformed". It turns out, you cannot replace wiper blades, or a light bulb, on your own vehicle, without voiding the the added "free" mechanical protection plan! On top of this, when I proceeded to pay for my tires with my credit card, Jake Sweeney tacked on an additional 3% to my total! This is an additional fee that I believe is the cost of doing business, if you accept credit cards. This practice should be called out whenever an establishment adds this fee. So....Be aware that Jake Sweeney's Lifetime Mechanical Protection is a sales ploy. You will pay handsomely for this offer by being required to replace your vehicle's light bulbs, wipers and filters by Jake Sweeney's Service Department!

This review is for Joe Hill service advisor only. He is fantastic and does everything he can to help you. He is THE ONLY reason I continue to service my telluride at this dealership. He is the 5/5. The dealership… not so much
