Before my wife drove to Pembroke on August 28 to sell her 2010 Subaru Forester, she did everything a careful seller should do: called ahead, reached the dealership's president, walked him through the bumper damage and scratches point by point, and asked whether it was worth the trip. He said they wanted the car and that she wouldn't be lowballed. When she arrived, the damage she'd disclosed became a "discovery" and the offer dropped hard. The car was exactly as described; the offer wasn't. I believe this is a strategic approach to benefit them: promise everything to get them to the dealership, and then lowball when the seller arrives. Sellers should insist on a written offer that acknowledges the car's condition before driving anywhere.
