Buyer beware
The salesman was Robert. He was nice. Robert gave me a price for the vehicle I wanted to buy. The price included the cost of the vehicle, sales tax, dealer fee of $995 ( Wow!), and registration/tag. I accepted his offer. The vehicle had to be brought from somewhere else so we continued communicating via email. I received a buyers order to present to my lender. It reflected the costs we had discussed, except the registration/tag cost was listed under ?government fees? and was more than $800! When I questioned what this was I got a revised bill that now reflected $400+ for ? government fees?. Again I questioned and was told it was $5 tire fee, $1.50 battery, $180 tag/reg and $299.95 electronic transfer fee. I inquired if the $299 fee was a government fee or the dealers. I was told it was the dealers. Very deceptive! Bury a dealers fee under government fees. I was basically told by Robert that he couldn?t do anything about it and I would have to take it up with the finance guy. When I returned to the dealer the following day, my purchase agreement now reflected a total price about $50 less than the previous amount I was given. A review of the numbers reflected the only changes to be a reduction in sales tax and an increase in government fees, which are now $500+. Again I asked for an explanation. Robert went to talk to finance. He came back and told me they were working out the numbers and I would be happy with the results. He took me out to go over the car while this was being done. Then back inside and I was passed to the finance guy, Mark. He starts having me sign papers. When we get to the numbers, my bottom number has now increased back to the number Robert had provided ( the $50+ reduction had disappeared). I asked Mark for an explanation of the fees. He turned his computer screen slightly and showed me a chart on the screen with a bunch of numbers including tire fee, battery fee, tag/reg and that lovely $299.95 electronic transfer fee. There were probably other things there as well but I was told ? we don?t normally show these to the customer ?. Why not? Doesn?t the customer deserve to know what they?re paying? I again asked why the $299.95 was shown as a government fee when clearly it is not. His answer was ?I don?t know, it?s just done that way.? You?re the finance guy and you don?t know? I bought the car. I left unhappy. I believe this dealer is deceptive and I would never buy there again.
