Love Hate Relationship

I bought my 2001 TT Quatro convertible new. It had all kinds of problems which were fixed under warranty. But I love it - it handles well, drives smoothly, feels like a heavy, expensive car. Last year I put $5000 into it which I wasn't happy with at all. The instrument panel went bad -$2,000 to replace (I missed the recall by 1 day and the dealership wouldn't help), then something busted which broke the timing belt which broke a bunch of other things - it was in the garage for 6 weeks and cost me $3000. It still looks new and gets a lot of attention.

Fast and Fun!

Fantastic driving machine! However, expensive to maintain! Gauge pod went out - $850 and turns out to be very common. Eats mass air sensors, and has a problem with the traction program ($$$) BUT handles a winding road like a dream!

Amazing Fun

I bought this car with 35,000 miles on it, bone-dry stock. It is a beautiful car with amazing handling and acceleration for the money. A couple of relatively inexpensive performance upgrades has me at a nice even 300hp. Track or Sunday drive, this car is a great fit and turns heads!

Perfectly designed

Not reliable, but and absolutely fantastic automobile. But really, are you buying this for reliability and frugileness?? No. If you are looking for that, buy an Accord or Camry. This is a car in it's own terriority. You have to love this car in order to buy it though. It's much too expensive to maintain to absolutely not love it. Put a new timing belt, water pump and cam seals in two weeks ago and it came to $2100!! It's not cheap, but I promise you that you won't get as many looks as you do this car with any other car under $20,000. Better than a boxster and a z3. z4 is best but you'll have to pay more.

Be prepared to spend $$$ as it ages!

I bought my Quattro '01 TT Coupe with 8800 miles on it. It has been one fun ride. When this black beauty is cleaned up, it attracts attention. The car handles well and begs to be driven on twisty mountain two-lanes. Normal maintenance is something we should expect, but recently the handle broke off the glove box ... something I very rarely use. No problem...just get a new handle, right? Uh uh...Audi says a whole new glove box assembly is required ... for $748 plus labor! The time and date display now begins each day at July 1, 1998. That is another $800 fix. So, yes, it's a fun ride. And YES, it's a quirky car. Ken Franklin, TN

I have had my 01 TT for about 2 years now. Its comfortable, fully loaded and a blast to drive! This car is a tank in bad weather, I drive it year round and have never had a tough time or bad experience in any weather.

Good Average car

Compared to my 350z, this car is ok. Handles pretty well on the road. Only fun when turbo boost. Need a couple of Modification to make this a fun daily driver. For normal everyday driving, it is a good car.

Best handling car I've ever driven.

Incredible handling characteristics. Tight and solid. Think about turning and you're half way through. Very fast when the turbo kicks in.

A great car!

I purchased a 2001 Audi TT Quattro Roadster a year and a half ago. Since then, I have not had any major mechanical problems. I now have almost 85,000 miles on it. I have had to replace the brakes and rotors ($900) and my rear glass window became separated from the convertible top (partly my fault for driving through a car wash and waiting a little too long with the hot air dryer!). Luckily, my insurance covered the cost -- you can't just replace the window -- you have to replace the whole top. The exterior and interior have held up remarkably well. Most people think it's a brand new car. Because of reading prior negative reviews, I did purchase an extended warranty which is good until 112,000 miles. Luckily, I haven't had to use it yet, although I will soon as the computer display is starting to lose quality. This is covered under my extended warranty. The car is extemely fast and fun to drive. I have the fairly rare "green on green on green" combo -- Pearl desert green effect paint, dark green top and greyish green leather interior. It sounds ugly but is very nice looking. I get tons of compliments on the color and the car. The stereo (Bose Premium) is amazing -- even with the top down. The power back windscreen works great. In the rare event of cooler weather, I crank up the heated seats (several settings -- at least five) and roll up the windows. I know someone that has the same year TT with almost 200,000 miles and hasn't had any major issues with it -- just routine service.
