1999 BMW Z3

by Senik from Georgia on Wed Dec 12 2012

Pro Styling and handling are very good. Engine performance very good for 2.5 6 cylinder litre. Gas mileage is about 25 - 30 mpg. Con Engine crankcase ventilation valve, very difficult to replace, 3 hour job for mechanic, multiple hoses that degrade with age, costly repair. Poor design on seat bushings, which wear and cause forward and rearward motion, must remove seat to repair. Trunk mounted 3rd brake light, very prone to leak with age, suggest removing assembly and resealing with silicone. Glove box assembly suffers from lock catch sagging on my Z3 From my research, all Z3 speedometers read about 7% higher than actual speed. Convertible top seals harden and can leak water in around the windows. If you plan to do work yourself be sure to get a shop manual. Manuals are very limited and pricey. Search internet for formums and ask questions prior to purchase. Maintenance is a must to keep these cars performing well. Overall I am very satisfied with the car.

MOst reliable car I've owned

by SPortscar buff from Texas on Wed Sep 29 2010

I've seen these cars with 2-3 hundred thousand miles on them and they continue to be very reliable. If you are looking for a great touring sports car that is reliable and fun to drive, look no futher than a BMW Z3 convertible. These cars can only grow in value as time goes on.

Unique and fun to drive

by G Zachariah from Saint Paul, MN on Thu Oct 05 2017

This car is such fun to drive! I feel like I'm in a tiny starship. The acceleration is there when you need it. I love the body lines of this funky little hatchback.

This green styling convertable roadster is a delight to look at. Leather interior with both passenger and driver heated seats. All Power with a nice blaupunc stereo system.

Loved it and wish I still had it

by Chilliard325 from Front Royal Va on Thu Oct 26 2017

Great car made by a great company. Loved the style and handling. Seats were marginal and if I still had them, I would replace them.

Our Take on the 1999 BMW Z3

BMW Z3 M COUPE

It's an ugly car -- a snouty thing with a humped back, a motorized cartoon on fat, 17-inch rear wheels.

It's uglier than the Gremlin and the Pacer, metallic abominations produced in the waning years of the now-defunct American Motors Corp. It's so ugly, people howl and point at it. It's the 1999 BMW M Coupe.

But it's a curious form of derision. People condemn it at first sight. Then they walk around it, touch it, sit in it and ask for a ride. Bolder types beg to get behind the wheel, which they are reluctant to relinquish after short drives.

They are transformed by the experience, and some are transfixed as well. Suddenly, the M Coupe becomes hip, cool, phat (pretty, hot and tempting... Read More
