3rd transmission at 140K miles! The car's a lemon!
2nd transmission need at 50K miles, 3rd needed at 140K. Ford stupidly placed a sensor inside the vehicle's transmission that determines if the car's in park. Companies normally put that under the hood. To change the sensor means to replace the transmission. That's $6000! A used tranny is $1500 plus install and who knows how longs that will last? The car after 5 years is only worth $3800 trade in if it was working order.

We put 50,000 miles on it.
Great car. Sorry Ford decided to discontinue it. Their mistake, we would have purchased a new one. Only down side of this car was the turning radius, we would need to back up to re-align the car to pull into a parking spot. Other than that it was fun to drive and watch how well you brake and charge the battery. We got about 41 mpg.

Great little work vehicle
I bought this used to replace my 1999 Tahoe that was near 300,000 miles. I need a decent amount of storage space for hauling tools & equipment around & the C-Max has proven adequate for most jobs. Factoring car payment in with fuel savings, this car only costs me about $70 a month more than the Tahoe, but it's much easier to bump around town. The seats took some getting used to, but are comfortable enough, though nothing like the overstuffed leather recliners the Tahoe offered. The only other downside is that the turning radius is pretty pathetic. I looked up the published specs & the Tahoe actually has a smaller turning radius. On the upside, I've more than doubled my gas mileage, even while lugging around a couple hundred pounds of stuff everyday & having a fairly heavy right foot. I also like that I have most of the newest safety systems available. Handling & braking are very responsive, thanks to the Focus underpinnings. I haven't had it long enough to comment on reliability, but other than the early production gremlins of the 2013 model, I haven't found any reason to doubt it will be a good vehicle for a long time. The exterior looks are plain, which is fine with me. The SLE package makes the inside a genuinely nice place to be. I've driven quite a few Priuses in the past (never owned one) & while there's no doubt that car gets better mileage, the C-Max is a superior vehicle in every other way; better interior, more power, better handling, etc. All in all, I'm looking forward to putting 2 or 3 hundred thousand miles on this car.

Failed transmission
I bought this car used with 105,000 miles, after owning it for 5 MONTHS(now 112,000 miles), the transmission needs to be replaced. The cost of that is $7,000! I bought it for $5,840. Now I owe $5,000 for a car I can't afford to fix.

Great Performance in a Hybrid
Leased a fully loaded SEL model in 2014 and love the distant memories of getting fuel every week. Now it is every 2 weeks and I am getting around 820 kilometers/tank. Pros: great acceleration very quiet reasonably good voice recognition except for quirky street names great self parking option-very reliable and impresses passengers great mileage Cons: - It is as if Ford simply added a 600 lb. battery to the frame and the suspension will bottom out going over one of those top of the road inserted silent speed guardians. It is very harsh on man made bumps; -turning radius is larger than my Honda pilot. Most mall spots require a shift into reverse if it is even slightly tight; -rear kick open trunk release is a great feature, but seems to reset somehow when a different opening device is used: key vs. switch vs. foot) a little bit of a pain sometimes -Owners manual is ridiculously confusing and might as well say "see dealer" wherever you may have a question about doing anything yourself. e.g try and figure out how to jump start this car or provide a jump start to another car.... the images do not match what is under the hood! -Tire pressure monitoring device goes haywire when a flat tire is repaired and does not reset. -Finally, the airflow wing is a little small at the back of the roof and the rear of the car gets quite dirty as a result.... They could have done a better job with some kind of spoiler.

2014 Ford C-Max SEL
If you?re looking for a great family wagon type vehicle that gets great gas mileage and is reliable, I would highly recommend the Ford C-Max. In fact, the one we just purchased is our second one! We loved the first one so much we sought out a second one when another long-time-owned vehicle finally quit. It has some of the most comfortable seats in a car, the visibility is great with the huge windshield, the stereo sounds wonderful and all of the features on the SEL model (our first is an SE) make it super-appealing.

Economy. Space. Performs well. Great package.
No other car gives the mileage performance and space of the cmax. Great pickup for an economy car and the space of a small minivan.
