Built FORD tough!

The only reason I’m here is I was wondering if there were any Escort Wagons still around. We bought ours when it was 2 years old. It was the LX package, black with grey interior. We were happy to find it and quickly made an offer on it. We drove this car on many road trips, through all kinds of weather. We were apprehensive to drive in a snow storm to northern Michigan, but had 0 problems with it. It moved with us to our new home in Georgia, fully packed and raring to go. It became the work only car when we bought a fully loaded Focus ZTW wagon. Our little Escort lasted 230,000 miles. We actually cried when the wrecker came to take it away. We drive a beautiful new Golf Alltrack now. The Escort could never compare to the new VW, but it will always be remembered as one of our favorite cars.

Perfect First Car

Very nice to have as a first car. The car handles like any other car except when in windy and unstable road conditions such as wet pavement. The car wants to fishtail but the FWD takes over if you accelerate a little. The exterior is very unappealing and so is the interior. The radio is hard to reach when driving. The car is pretty healthy after doing a thorough inspection but it's a little loud at idle, especially in drive. Very slow and lack of giddyupiness! No need for much maintenence the car rides fine and sounds fine. The only scary downside is you can't tell how many miles the car has because the roller only goes to 99,999 miles then relaps. But an overall great first car, unless you want high performance. The car gets me 60 miles a day easy. I was suprised at the gas tank release switch and trunk release switch under the seat, very convenient. The speedo only goes to 85mph, but who needs to go faster right? Oh, and maybe its just me but its hard to tell how close you are in back when parking, I got the LX 2 door hatchback version. Maybe the others differ in some aspects.

SLOW POKE!!!!!

This is my 1st car (Escort LX wagon) and I am very disappointed. The 88hp 1.9L 4 is not enough for a wagon!! What were they thinking! But it is very roomy. Can carry me and my two friends.. and our stuff.

Most Reliable Car I've Owned

I currently have 335,000 km on it, and still use it as a daily driver for a 47km commute (one-way). Extremely low maintenance.
