Great road warrior

by Big Van Lover from Chesapeake, VA on Sat Jul 19 2008

We traded up from a 94 Chevy conversion van to the Savana (also a conversion van). It's a little hard to separate the GMC features from the conversion features (Starcraft). The 5.3L engine and 3.73 rear end are a great combination. Ours came with a trailer hitch installed, and the van feels very strong pulling 3,000-4,000+ lbs. over hills. We routinely get 18+ mpg on road trips. Van handles well and fun to drive. Plenty of leg room for our 6'11" son AND German shepherd in the second row seats. Still has the original tires at 70,000 miles. Only problem to date is power steering fluid leak from rack and pinion unit. Uses less than 1/2 qt. of oil between changes (5,000 miles). The "new" front end style is still very current. A much better value and way more room and convenience than an SUV. We plan to keep it till it drops!

Money Pit

by Miss Cheetah from Sudbury, ontario on Wed Oct 17 2007

I currently own three of these vans. all three have had the same problems, ie park light bulbs burn out quickly and as a result of changing them so often, the plastic covers no longer seal and have to be duct taped to hold them in place. also, there is a wiring harness problem that forced the tranny to shift abnormally therefore causing the tranny to slip. we have had to rebuild the tranny in one van in particular twice as a result of this wiring problem.

great vehicle for the money

by average joe from erie pa on Wed May 07 2008

purchased used with a 15 foot box. used to haul snack food products which can be quite heavy with a full load. at 100,000 miles the rig still runs very strong. would recommend this platform to anyone who doesn't need a big disel truck
