Love the Clarity. Forget burning Gas.

Overall, I love the car. Not as excited about the rear fender, but it is growing on me as I love everything else about the car. The battery range is exceptional. In the summer in Alabama in city driving, I am getting essentially 60 miles per charge. Gas MPG seems to be great too, but I have only burned 3 gallons of gas in 700 miles, so it is hard to get a great estimate.

Overall very satisfying

Would like a sunroof option? Otherwise great car! Proud to own it! I also would have liked MORE colors, and possibly a few other interior options, but this is a great car and I was anxious to own it! Electric and HYBRID cars ARE THE FUTURE!

The best electric car on the market

I was worried about the small gas tank and only getting 50 miles on a single charge, but in using this vehicle there is no worries. We have driven over 300 miles so far and have not used a drop of gasoline. At the end of each day there is still battery charge left. We are averaging over 200 miles per gallon. And if that is not enough, the comfort of the interior is outstanding. I am a big guy, over 6ft and this car is very comfortable as both a passenger and a driver. This is my first Honda and I love it.

I have to pinch myself. A true dream car.

I bought my Honda Clarity PHEV in January, 2018. To this day, 6 months later, it continues to blow my mind. An engineer's dream car, it has so many control systems that operate under the radar--beyond the routine habitual operational ones--that just contemplating them whilst driving is an intrinsic pleasure. A minimal learning curve required to take full advantage of routine control systems (speed and lane-maintenance, fuel optimization, mirrors, voice activated music, phonebook, calls, GPS) also rewards the driver with 120+ mpg while enjoying the quietest ride AND perhaps the best music audio system EVER--in any context! This vehicle causes the driver to model and think 'conservation of energy' routinely that the owner optimizes over time. Leather, wood paneling, the soft plant-based felt, the 8-way electric driver's seat, 4-way passenger seat, huge back seat room. 360 degree sensing. It's like driving an Accord Space Shuttle. Think this is all hyperbole? I have to pinch myself! I hope that Honda will provide a new generation Honda Link retrofit with updated code. My iPhone GPS is nicer and more accurate than the on-board GPS. Also, the newer system has a better background noise reduction during phone calls. I have to kvetch a little, right?

Excellent value and great car!

The Clarity is an excellent car overall. If you drive less than 50 miles per day, it is ideal as you will just have to charge it overnight and it will run on electric almost all of the time. The looks can be polarizing, either you like it or you hate it. I have a black one and the rear wheel design seems to be less noticeable. The drive is quiet and smooth with sufficient power. Handling is decent for an EV/Hybrid. If you are in hybrid mode with little electric range left, there will be some noise as it uses the gas engine more. You can recharge to 57% capacity while driving although there will be even more noise. It is a midsize car with a lot of room and the trunk is large although it is not a hatchback. The electric range is around 47 miles, but sometimes it has given me 62 because most of my driving is suburban and less traffic. If you are lighter on the pedal you can really get a lot of range. The closest competitor is the Chevy Volt which is probably a little quicker and has slightly more range. It can also go pure EV (the Clarity uses some gas if you floor it). The advantage of the Clarity is the size and comfort as well as it being a Honda. I also think the interior and extras of the Clarity give it more value for the money. Pros: Overall drive and smoothness, value for the money, ability to drive most or all in EV mode. Technology, Honda Sensing and other extras are a plus. It only lacks a sunroof. I bought the base model which is close to the touring except power seats, leather and navigation where smart phones take care of the absolute need for navigation. If you use mostly EV, you should have much less maintenance and the brakes should last longer making it more economical to maintain. Cons: Wiper blades seem flimsy, Android Auto has trouble staying connected (I will try my partner's I phone to check on that later) and for some the exterior styling may be a turn off. Note: it does have push button "transmission" which some won't like and no knobs on the radio, pure touch screen. I use the steering wheel buttons as needed. For me those are not an issue. This is a great car if you drive less than 50 miles daily and don't do a lot of highway driving (range will decrease if you drive above 70 mph). I am taking advantage of the 7500 dollar tax break which makes it a great deal. I also got a great deal on the car and my trade in, making it a no brainer. If you do drive that much: get the Accord Hybrid if you want the great mileage and power or wait on the new Insight (which is really a nice looking Civic Hybrid) with 55 mph.

Serious Computer Issue

If this posted previously I apologize. I'm a first time poster. Has serious computer error issue. Purchased Touring model in January. Had the dealer install a rear collision warning system along with an active blind side monitoring system. These are two serious omissions of Honda in regards to safety issues. The car has now been in the dealership for a consecutive 14 days and one day prior to this for the same problem. On the dash screen up pops a continually rotating series of major component system failures including BRAKE SYSTEM FAILURE. The dealer tried resetting the computer but the error reappeared. The dealer states HONDA IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM BUT HAS NO FIX FOR IT YET. The danger represented is one doesn't know if any of these failures are real. Imagine if one is true, you ignore it and serious problems results. We were given a loaner car while our $40k Clairity PHEV sits idle in the dealership awaiting a fix . Contacted Honda corporate to find out what is going on & was told our case worker would call us back. There has been no call back. This was two days ago. Contacted the dealer, he was surprised Honda has not done this. He believes there may be a software solution by in another two weeks. Please consider not buying this car until Honda has a cure for this problem. My opinion is Honda should pull the car off the market until the problem is solved. How can any manufacturer sell a vehicle they know has a serious safety issue? Because I've not been informed of anything being done by Honda, I contacted the NHTSA and posting a warning as to what is happening with my car so others might not run into this same problem.

A Plug-in Hybrid Cruiser

Really liking the Clarity so far. Like a lot of others, coming from a Prius which is so much louder. Drove the new Prius, but really liked the fact that the Clarity is a true mid-size car with lots of trunk space and a back seat for three. Have driven about 300 miles so far and haven?t used a drop of gas! Getting about 53 miles to a charge in moderate weather. Car is very quiet and handles well, although it is more tuned towards comfort. While the styling is a bit different, it grows on you. The two things that I would change are the lack of lumbar support and the windshield wipers. Also having an issue with charging at home that Honda says will be fixed with a software update.
