We compared all the minivans on the market in late 2002 and drove several. The 2 main points that sold us on this van were the hide-away 3rd row seats (which only Honda and Chrysler had then) and the Honda reliability. ABS (Anti-lock Brake System), TCS (Traction Control System), EBD (Electronic Braking Distribution) plus front and side airbags also made it attractive from a safety standpoint. We found carrying 3 kids and all our gear on vacation to be no problem. And taking delivery of a mattress (without the kids) was also a cinch. The powertrain has enough pep for getting by a speeding semi truck on the interstate going up hill or down. The front wheel drive has provided good traction even in snow and the Goodyear Triple-Tred Assurance tires we put on after about 45k miles made it even better, especially in the wet. The EX package included power sliding doors which we weren't really keen on at first. But as the family grew and we found ourselves exiting a store fully burdened it was nice to tweak a button and have the door already open when arriving at the van. We found the Sandstone Metallic (aka beige) paint a good choice as it doesn't really show dirt. One other thing I really like about the 2003 Odyssey is NOT having to think about it often. We drive about 18,000 miles in the van per year so keeping it out of the repair shop is important to us. Besides oil changes and tire rotation, very little maintenance is required with a 105,000 mile tune up interval. Overall a great vehicle for us and well worth the price we paid. Eventually we will have to replace it, so we are also encouraged by the high resale value Odysseys maintain. And the good reputation to make it easy to sell ourselves (rather than merely accepting a trade that gives the car dealer thousands of dollars of our hard-earned money).

For the money this vehicle was a good buy. It's pretty economical on gas, better than the ratings. The car drives very nice and has decent pick up being a V-6 makes it pleasant to drive. I purchased it locally as opposed to buying one several hours away. The car had one owner and was dealer maintained and all maint. records were furnished. Mileage was a bit higher than I would have liked but, these vehicles have a good reputation for being reliable into the 2 and 300,000 mile range. You would not think by the way it drives that it has the mileage it does. I probably will buy a newer one in a couple years or once I sell my other car.

2003 Honda Odyssey is now my dream car (sad huh?)

With our 2nd set of twins on the way my wife and I needed a 3rd car and it needed to set at least 6. I found a 2003 Odyssey for sale at local dealer and went to take a look. This vehicle ended up being an EX-L which was the top of the line model for that year I believe. It had leather interior, DVD player, heated seats, full power seats, basically every option other than the GPS (which would probably have been outdated by now anyway). It only had 93,000 miles, which was less than most of the 2006-newer ones that were for sale and the interior was FLAWLESS. The only knocks on the car were heavy use on the drivers armrest (I think this vehicle was only used for long trips as it was pristine inside and out, which would explain the armrest), the DVD player did not come with the wireless headphones* (but did have the remote) and the rear set head rests were missing. The dealer wanted $9,800 for it and I ended up getting it for $8,400, which seems like a steal to me. I have taken it on a few snowboarding trips with my kids and on one trip we ended up taking a friend and his son back with us and fit 2 adults, 3 kids, 6 snowboards & gear, 4 suitcases and a 42" TV boxed up in the van and we all roade comfortably. This vehicle is awesome! If you are thinking of buying one - do it.

I purchased this vehicle with 238,000 miles and both the interior & exterior are in very good condition. All electronic features with the exception of the 6-disc CD changer work flawlessly. I am very impressed with how well this car drives with the mileage. I had the service engine soon light come on and it turned out to be the oxygen sensor in the catalytic converter. I purchased a new one on line for $23 and installed myself. It took 20 minutes and the light has been out since. My daughter bought one just like it with 174,000 miles on it and the service engine light came on and gave misfiring codes. I removed and cleaned the EGR valve along with removing the top cover of the intake manifold and cleaned the 6-port holes along with the port channels in the cover. They were clogged with carbon which I suspect came from city driving and possibly low quality fuel. This process took about 45 minutes t complete and now the light is off and the van runs much smoother.

Bought the Van in 03 new. The Van was intended for taking 4-6 Golfers to the course, along with all the Golf equipment, Shoes,Hats,Clubs, etc. Perfect choice, never a problem with the vehicle and plenty of space for 6 plus gear. Would buy a new one when this one wears out, however by that time I could be dead.

I have had my odessey for about a month. I was disappointed when I found out there was a recall on the transmission and saw all the reviews about the complaints about the transmission. I have replaced the timing belt and water pump as it didn't appear to have been done at 90,000 miles and it has 121,000. BUT, my mechanic says it's a great car and should last me a very long time. I hoping he's right!
