Over all, this is a great car for the money. It is very stylish and has a fairly large interior with a large trunk. The ride is firm but comfortable. The car handles well on curves at highway speeds. The four cylinder engine is a little whimpy, however it returns great mileage (33mpg). The auto trans is fairly smooth. The forward oblique vision is hampered by the large A posts. The road and wind noise is disapointing. i believe the Hyundai Sonata will be reliable car. I recommend this car.

Nice car, but not so good on mileage

I love my new Sonata, but the mileage is considerably lower than promised. Every other Sonata owner has said the same,. It is rated at 22 and 35 MPG, but it only gets a combined 20.6 MPG, city and highway. With gas prices so high, this is a significant issue. The styling is just great--inside and out. But the mileage doth suck!

The Decision and the First Road Trip

For the past three months I had been looking for the perfect midsize car for my family. The right combination of luxury features, fuel economy, and room for myself, my wife and two sons. I researched on Cars.com for a couple weeks and then made a list of vehicles to test drive. I narrowed it down to seven cars to test drive. The Toyota Camry, the Honda Accord, the Ford Fusion, the Chrysler 200, the Chevy Malibu, the Buick Regal, and the Hyundai Sonata. I was looking for certain features. Leather interior, sunroof, power everything, integrated Bluetooth, excellent fuel economy, and warranty and reliabilty. The Camry, the Malibu, the Accord, and the fusion were fine cars. Each had positive features, but when thinking of quality of apperance and amenities they fell short of the Regal, 200, and Sonata. I drove the Regal and loved it. No complaints. I drove the 200 and was loving it until and sensor on the transmission failed and it went into "limp mode" where it would not shift above 2nd gear and not go over 35mph. The 200 immediately dropped form my list. Then I drove the Sonata Limited. I was first impressed with its styling and the quality of the paint. Then I took my test drive. It was a smooth ride. I was more than impressed and decided it would be either the Regal or the Sonata. The decision was made when I listed the options I required for the car. The Sonata similarly equipped came in almost $5,000 less than the Buick. It also cames with a 10yr/100.000 mi powertrain warranty. I went with the limited in Radiant Silver and black leather interior. In the time since we bought the car we have been nothing but satisfied. The FIRST time I went anywhere in the car was to get a haircut at a local barbershop. While sitting in the barber's chair a gentleman stopped and was looking at the car. When he entered he entered the shop he asked, " Who's Mercedes is that? Sharp car." He almost fell over when I told him it was a Hyundai. I continue to get that type of question. The car looks great. As far as the driving, it could not be better. Plenty of power, handles great, ride is smooth and great gas mileage. Traveled to my in-laws, a 180 mile trip, half on interstate and the rest on two lane state highway. Averaged 33.4 MPG on the drive. My family loves this car. I know that there are many mid-size cars out there. There are many excellent quality mid-size cars out there. But I will honestly tell you that I cannot imagine a better combination of great features, great driving, fuel economy and price. As a footnote, I gave the car 5* for reliability. We have not had the car an extended period of time, but with a 10year/100,000 mi warranty, what more could you ask for?

second Sonata

This is my second Sonata I've purchased. I have noticed some plugging to the left upon speeds greater then 70mph. However, I love this car and will continue to purchase Hyundai's if they keep making quality products. This car is simply beautiful you won't be disappointed. Exterior and interior is very impressive ( leather, power seats, bluetooth, usb ports etc....

Looks good but not so good of a car

"Like many, I was drawn in by its looks & perceived value. I thought i would have saved money after pricing 2011 Nissan Maxima's, Volkswagen CC's & a Honda Accord Crosstour EX-L with navigation. The Sonata looks great inside & out, but looking closely, you can see misaligned inner parts & inconsistent gaps on the exterior. The car has a habit of pulling to the left. The dealer indicated upon my first visit to the service center that it is a common problem that other owners have voiced. The dealership has been kind loaning us another vehicle but the problem still exists after a number of visits. The few gripes we have are minor in comparison but worthy to share with anyone considering a new car. They include: Oddly placed vents that position airflow at chest level, overly soft & shallow seats, a strong vibration that rattles the underneath of the dash & glove compartment & prominent wind noise from the sunroof. Likes include: Sweeping exterior lines, nice shifter, interior colors, tasteful dashboard trim, long list of ammenties & panorama sunroof that brightens the front & rear seating areas. Despite all of the positives, the copious issues do not justify the lower than some competitors' prices. Next time, I think I will go for a 4WD VW CC or AWD Honda Crosstour. Both have a better than stellar track record according to car enthusiast publications & owners I have spoken with."

Price Does Not Amount to Value

I love the styling, yet at least four in my apartment complex have identical Sonata's, color and all. Not as exclusive as I had hoped, like the VW CC. Bought the '11 Sonota to save money for grad school, but so far the car has demonstrated the following downsizeds: Cheap plastic interior parts, unsupportive seats with faulty power seats, car drifts to one side (no fix, per dealer), less room than size suggests, leaky windshield surround and a terrible vibration about 30 MPH. Likes so far: Sweeping roof line (yet it means poor rear seat head room), list of standard features and base price. I will certainly look elsewhere next time around, but for the time being, I will soldier on, as the Sonata is a 2011 model and I cannot afford taking too great a loss.

Best car I have ever owned to date

This is by far the best bang for your buck. This car has everything and then some. Great gas mileage, around 38 on the highway and 28 around town. Kicking stereo, great get and go, and turns alot of heads. For 30k you sure do get alot for your money. I currently own a 02 Sonata, with 206k, and still have the same tranny and engine, which is why we went to the 2011 Sonata. I am 6'6" and have plenty of leg room and head room and yes the car has a sun roof. You can just see the detail that went into the designing of this vehicle right down to the sliding sun visors, nice touch. Car is alot of fun to drive, handles great, and looking forward to taking long drives in her.

Great car.

I drive the GLS with popular equipment upgrade. I purchased the car in April 2010 so I've been driving it for almost a year now. This car exceeds my expectations every day. It handles well, has good acceleration and braking is very good to. I previously drove a 2003 Hyundia Elantra which was a reliable but somewhat unconfortable car. I drove a 2010 Hyundia Sonata and wasn't impressed at all. Then I drove the 2011 model and was blown away it cost $2500 more then the 2010 but was well worth the difference. This car is a whole new breed of Hyundia it has 6 speed auto/stick transmission using the stick mode is alot of fun on twisting, winding roads the car really sticks to the road and always feels connecteds even at high speeds. The popular equipment package included 17 inch rims which look much better than the stock wheels with hub caps which looks kind of tacky in my opinion. The car has had no problems except it needed to be jumped once by Hyundia roadside assistance because the battery was dead I still don't know what caused this but it's been fine ever since there was 1 recall which was minor and my car wasn't affected and Hyundia sent me a $20 gift card for the inconvienence. This car feels solid I think it will be reliable based on my experience with Hyundia and even if something goes wrong they have the best warranty in the business. Now I want to get a 2011 Elantra for my partner because it looks like a baby Sonata and I can tell everyone my Sonata had a baby. Thank you Hyundia for selling me such a great car for such a good price.

So Much Car for the Money!

I bought a Hyundai Sonata Limited 2T (turbo)-- handles beatifully, looks like a luxury car, but uses regular unleaded gas. More hp than the V6Altima, with a better crash rating. Many extras on this model are standard. Only a couple of issues that I have are the sharp cutoff of the headlights and the road noise. Also, not as cushy a ride as a Lexus, but for much less money.
