After 28k miles, only oil changes and normal services done. No repairs, adjustments, recalls, or anything. It is safe, solid, comfortable, gets great mileage, and is VERY practical. And who else gives you a LIFETIME bumper to bumper warranty? I took it on a 3 week 4k mile trip and loved the ergonomics. Plastic interior surfaces, of course, for only $15k.

Most Reliable Car I've Owned

by from Lawrence, KS on September 14, 2011

Have had this car for 3 years and the only problem I have had was a bad battery in the third month. It is getting between 28 and 30 mpg in town and does everything I wanted it to do.

I was drawn to my first SUV and Jeep by a newspaper add last November offering an incredible value for a new 2008 Compass. I also was impressed with standard safety features, warranty and the chance to teach my 20 year old how to drive a stick. The 5-speed has been a joy to drive, even for my son and handles well in the MN snow even without 4-wheel drive. The styling is very unique with the face of a Jeep and the rear of a BMW SUV-a fun and practical auto!

I have the 5spd version and frankly, for the money, it has been a really good vehicle. Acceleration is good, gas mileage is good(About 24 all around). All in all I have the base with 25E package. I have about 6K on it now in 2 months and it has been just great. I drove the CVT version, it is like night and day compared to my 5spd. It's noisy, it does not accelerate as well and frankly if you put your foot in it, it sounds like the pistons are gonna swap holes. The engine torque curve starts about 2K and runs up to about 5500, the CVT with your foot in it runs at 6K and just seems to be set up wrong....Did not like the CVT at all....The 5spd is a pretty nice car, would suggest that you have the seat height adjuster for the drivers seat. I'm 6'5" and with that it is very comfortable, without it, my head is above the top of the windshield. It's a cheap option, but very handy for tall folks...Other than that, the 25E package(Not 25D) is all I needed with the 17" wheels(I found the 18" wheel and tire package to be too noisy above 40MPH.) Later...

Had it for two weeks now 20mpg/GPS/bluetooth

I have the 2008 Limited 4 x 4 with automatic and every option except the side airbags. I traded in a Ford Explorer due to gas mileage issues. The truck is VERY quiet and comfortable to ride in especially on the highway. When you press on the gas it acts like it wants to give it it's all, but has no acceleration to it. I used the manual shifter and that seems to make it get about 1 mile better to the gallon, when it's in automatic it don't want to shift unless you are really taking it easy and wants to hit 5 rpm every shift. It states 21-24mpg but I get TOPS 21. They should write on the window 20 and that's it. The 4 x 4 is just for looks, only works in low gears then goes into AWD. The GPS is fairly easy to use, but the radio that has the mp3 input and no GPS has a better sound mainly due to it has a 7 band equalizer and a sub control that I was VERY impressed with during a test drive, when I got my order with the GPS it has a basic bass mid high and no sub level and when you turn it up it lowers the bass. The seating is very comfortable leather and if you want to take a nap the seats almost lay flat going backwards! The lifetime warranty and the cheap 5 year basic extended warranty are two things I loved about this vehicle. The coolest thing about this truck is the blue tooth phone port. I found out by accident that after you set your phone up to it, if you keep your blue tooth on when you start the truck the radio will takeover your call and go hands free with no effort, then when you shut the truck off it goes back to the phone. People on the other end can hear you very clearly even when people are talking from the back seat!! Great safety feature!

Like: Good pick-up for 4 cylinder (I have a 5 spd manual), handles great and has a very sharp look... Good ride, roomie and very good MPG (I am averaging 28 on the highway and 24 in town). I have a Boston Acustic sound system that sounds great and liftdown tailgate speaker that, believe it or not, really helps the sound while you are driving. Not an off road vehicle, but handles the snows of Iowa very nicely! Not so great: Interior not fancy, but very functional. Blind spots take some getting us to. I really wish the hatchback side windows would open. Tire are only rated for 28,000 miles...
