  • In rural Zambia it is the best

I lived in rural Zambia for 4 years and owned a 1995 Defender 110 TDI. Mostly drove on game paths through the bush to remote villages (we were missionaries). Always got us to our destination and home again through the most difficult terrain. Rough ride is a relative term in rural Africa. Dependability is everything there.

  • Outstanding reliability and king of the road feel

Love this vehicle! Never let ya down reliability. As you drive down the road in a defender you can’t help but think about simpler times. My kidos love ridding in the rear jump seats with the top down, No Phones, No video games just family time in the Defender

  • The ultimate summer machine

What else can I say that hasn't already been said? I've had my Defender for 4 years and not once have I regretted the purchase. How many vehicles can back up the claim that they maintain 100% or can increase more than 200% of their original value? Very few. I have had sooo many people compliment me on it, it's amazing. You'll never get that from any Toyota or Jeep of the same vintage. Keep in mind these amazing vehicles are not for everyone. Every day is an adventure. Their reputation as yuppie-mobiles is not unfounded, but don't let that stop you. Defenders ooze more character than almost anything on the road today. Their styling is very anti-styling and that matters alot to many people, myself included. I want people to see a safari or adventure movie and remember me and my truck. People have recognized me from hundereds of yards away then send me an email that they saw me on the freeway. Yes, as vain as that sounds, you will stand out and you'll enjoy every minute of it. If you like Jeeps, Broncos or Toyotas, stick with them, please. These are not for you. But if you prefer to stand out, stand above and be remembered for appreciating finer things, than look no further than a Land Rover Defender.

  • Be ready to spend some $$

The 1995 Defender is the ultimate off road vehicle. Designed for off-road it does not disapoint. The articulation is superb. With a lift and 32's this beast goes just about anywhere. It does tend to rust so watch out on these older vehicles. The motor was susceptible to many problems and the transmissions the same. Mine was in the shop frequently the first few years thanks god it was under warranty. These trucks are EXPENSIVE to repair if you take it to the dealer. The truck is a head turner everywhere you go. If you want attention this is the truck and you rarely see another one on the road. I would not reccommend as a daily driver they are loud and handle poorly on the highway. You will never use your cell phone since you can't hear so it is a good place to get awy.

  • The best Land Rover model produced to date

I've had my 95 defender for about a year now and its the best vehicle i've ever owned. Obviously if you're into defenders odds are you feel the same way i do. The 3.9 (in my bias opinion) is the best engine in the 4 different years they were produced. Its a low compression engine, so that means: no premium fuel needed and it runs a little bit cooler as well. They're an extremely solid vehicle, though i believe it could take about anything i try and keep my in top condition with little to no thrashing. The thing is a god on the off-road. With full-time 4-wheel drive and center lock differential and low and high gear box, just like the early range rovers this landy too, was ahead of its time (without getting in over their heads of-course unlike they did with the earlier range rovers and their air-suspension). I could ramble forever about this awesome land rover but if you're in the market for one of these my advice is not to settle for something less than what you're looking for. At any given time theres about 100 NAS defenders on the market and with the low numbers that were produced and given their ever-growing age, that's pretty good. Just have patience and wait till you find the right one and after it's yours you'll understand what I'm talking about when i say its the best vehicle i've ever owned. The downsides:(which matter little, and really what can you expect from a "multi-purpose"{as the warning label in the truck calls it} vehicle that is ten years plus in age?)- It would be nice if putting on the top and taking it off were easier. (maybe i should consider a fiberglass hard-top) most of the soft tops don't have inward-facing rear seats and the highway drive isn't the greatest. Anyways, I hope this has been somewhat helpful to someone in the market for their first defender and not just a defender lover's ramblings.
