SUPER Comfortable, beloved gas hog
This vehicle has won me over to the Lexus brand. Performance, comfort, quality, reliability; she has it all. Only downside is the mileage; a lackluster 16+mpg around town. Ouch! But for someone like myself who requires an SUV with a V8 and AWD, I couldn't ask for better. I don't expect to need another car for 200,000 miles or so, but it will definitely be another Lexus.

SUV for Special Needs
I traded up from a FJ Cruiser to this. In short, it's an amazingly comfortable SUV that excels at off road performance. Based on the Land Cruiser Prado sold pretty much everywhere else in the world except the US (think sand dunes and the bush), this truck is NOT a pimped out 4Runner. The full time 4WD, V8, rear air suspension, build quality, comfort and reliability combined make this rig unsurpassed for those who venture beyond the mall. These trucks are often referred to as out of date dinosaurs, and are compared to their unibody competitors who may outperform in terms of drivability and road manners; but this truck is built for towing, adverse driving conditions, and off-road capabilities while maintaining superior daily driver comfort for the whole family. If that?s not what you need, then look elsewhere. If it is, then look no further, spend a little extra up front, and drive it for another 200k miles. The KDSS version will decrease road body roll and improve off-road capabilities, as well, but they are hard to find. Not so great features include: limited 3rd row seating space and comfort, high (but rare) repair costs, fuel efficiency, styling (face it, it's ugly front most angles), and rear door.

An incredibly capable vehicle
We owned a Toyota Prado GXL Landcruiser in Australia and put 22000 KM on it while we lived in Queensland. It had a 4.0 L V6 and was a RHD vehicle but it is identical to the Lexus GX470 except for the V8. I have owned over 55 vehicles in my 45 years driving and these mid sized suvs are one of a few vehicles I would own again....and again....and again...... They are bullet proof on and off the road.....As safe a suv as is possible ( they are not sports cars ). Off road, we drove circles around Range Rovers that were stuck in sand highways over mountains on Frazer Island QLD..... They are extremely quiet and smooth with their adjustable ride and height control..... The V6 was amazing so I can't comment on the 4.7 L V8......Gas sippers they are not because they are heavy......built on proper chassis..... We saw many Prados in QLD with close to 1M KM......still going strong...... Reliability is the finest........ We are now looking for a 2008-2009 GX 470....not a 460 which is a different vehicle,,,,not in the same league when it comes to ability off road...... We could buy anything........X5s? not comparable......Range Rovers?....get out your check book and prepare to spend loads to keep them perfect..... Land cruisers?.....absolutely if you need the room/.......as there is no better vehicle in the world! Enjoy one if you can find a nice one! Older ones still worth $$ if nice!

Best Lexus I've Ever Owned
This is my second Lexus and let me tell you it has not disappoint. We found this vehicle on Cars.com and although we traveled from Illinois to Missouri it was worth the travel. We purchased a 2008 with 68,000 and the car was clean inside out. The ride is smoother than smooth and very comfortable. I took it to Lexus for an inspection and other than a few minor things the vehicle is in great condition. We are very happy with this vehicle and look forward to driving it for many more years.

First Lexus SUV
I bought a 2008 GX off lease with 15k miles on it. Vehicle was in meticulious condition as one would expect it to be. We have the vehicle 2 years and have taken 3 extensive round trips to Fla with this vehicle. It is defenitely the most comfortable vehicle I have even driven or been a passenger in. The biggest downside is the gas guzzling of the V8 which gives appx 16-17 mph with vehicle in cruise control mode. Not something I would have expected. So far no mechanical problems.

The perfect luxury SUV
I can honestly tell anyone looking for a luxury midsize SUV that this is a great choice. It's as at home on a muddy mountain road as it is at the country club thanks to the 4WD system and suspension. The 4.7 liter V8 is more powerful than the numbers suggest, and if you drop the hammer from a red light it will throw you back in the seat and you will find yourself at an illegal speed before you know it. My favorite part of the car is the interior, and the stereo system. I read reviews on the ML sound system that were both good and bad, but here's what I think. Lexus build cars for an older demographic, and if you listen to dynamic classical music such as Vivaldi's Four Seasons, you will be amazed by the sonic clarity and sound staging. On the other hand, if your musical taste is more Jay-Z or say Rob Zombie you may not be so impressed. This is certainly not to say it won't sound good, it does, but don't expect it to throw down like the 2 12" Cerwin-Vegas you had in high school. The Sat-Nav unit is not the best I've ever seen, and is a bit antiquated by even 2008 standards. One other thing to keep in mind is that this is a full time 4WD, full framed, V-8 powered SUV. It simply will never be as car-like as say an Acura MDX, Volvo XC90 or BMW X5, but will go just about anywhere you care to go or tow 6,500 lbs with no problem. There are a few small issues that I have found, the center console is a bit small, I'd rather have either a liftgate or even barn doors (like the old Isuzu Troopers had) as opposed to the big side opening gate, and a few more storage compartments would be nice. My Pro/Con list is: Pro's: Beautiful interior Great V8 power 4WD System Mark Levinson Stereo Flawless Reliability Con's: Small center console Side opening tailgate Sat-Nav system
