Beast for minimal investment

It is a very small convertible- as long as you realize what that implies (storage space and some comfort), you will adore this car. Huge community support, infinite possibilities for customization, very cheap parts, easy to work on, great horsepower/weight ratio, and fantastic handling. I use this car for my daily commute and for fun. It loves to rev and has taken even the most spirited driving in stride. Pick these up for a few grand, put a few more grand into it and it can be anything you want: a comfortable and reliable daily driver, a track car, etc.

1998 BMW Z3

Seen James Bond and had to have one. Great car, I had her for 20 years bought her off the delivery truck at Performance and she was so user friendly. Should not have traded her.

Most fun car I have owned

Best performing sports car for the money, plus it's a convertible. These cars are super fun and reliable and will keep you smiling. Yes they are small and storage is minimal...who cares that's why I have a Tahoe for hauling and towing. Even completely stock the handling is great, but slap on a few suspension components and you can keep up with any sports car out there in autocross or on twisty roads. Sure, you won't win on the real racetrack, but spend 10k and drop in a LS V8 and watch the guys with 100k cars pee their dockers as you blow by them with a 20k investment.

Still getting used to it

Recently sold a 2013 Camaro SS with a 6 speed stick. Even though I loved the car I found it spent most of the time in the garage. Wife wanted a convertible and talked me into buying this 2006 Mazda MX-6 Miata automatic with 23000 miles. Huge difference between the Camaro and the Mazda. I have to admit the Mazda is a blast to drive and handles superbly. The car is hard to drive without having a smile on your face. The 150 hp engine is peppy and I keep wishing I had gotten the 5 or 6 speed manual as I think I?d enjoy it much more. Wife is happy with the automatic. I also keep thinking how much more I?d enjoy it if it had 50 more hp. As far as fun factor the car is hard to beat. The cabin seems very noisy and i don?t believe the car would be good for very long road trips. For a weekend fun car it?s fantastic.

Best Car In the U.S. for under $60,000.

This is the second MX5 I have owned. I bought my first in 2007 new. I would have kept it forever, except it got hit from behind by an uninsured driver and was totaled. The one I have now was a 2006 Touring Edition with only 19,000 miles on it when I bought it. If you have never driven a MX5 you owe it to yourself to drive one. The six speed manual transmission is by far the best transmission I have ever driven. Smooth as silk. The brakes are superb, but the best thing is the handling. The only cars you will find in the U.S. that handle better are made by Alfa Romeo, Porsche, and Lotus and will cost you 60 grand plus. Everybody should own a Mazda MX5 at least once in their lives.
