2006 Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class consumer reviews

I purchased my 2006 CLS500 last year with 187,000 miles on it, and after enjoying the ever-so-soft ride around my town for a year its time for a review. This car has been incredibly reliable for me, I got the car for a steal at only $5,000 all-in, and assumed some horrid problems must be lying under the hood. After a year working with the car, I could not be anymore wrong. I have never had an engine light come on this vehicle. The electrics throughout the car work exactly as they should and the battery does not drain no matter how long the car sits(HINT: NEVER BUY AN 05-10 Audi A8!). My only issue with the car was at one point the automatic trunk release stopped working, which it turned out was just a split wire on the electrical harness running to the trunk and as soon as I reconnected it, no problems since! Bottom line: This thing is sexy, luxurious, reliable, and has more than enough power to blow the tires off the car next to you at the redlight. What more could you want?

This car runs great, looks great, and is extremely reliable. Great for cruising or for long trips. I would highly recommend this car to anyone looking for a luxury vehicle.

Beautiful body lines! One of the sleekest looking cars I've ever seen. Nice smooth ride and plenty of go! If you live in PA, I'd advise aftermarket rims or you will be buying rims and tires left and right at about $750 a pop.

I recommend this car to anyone who wants a fast, luxurious car. Car is a stylish and fun! No other brand can compare to the hand built AMG engine. Love this car!

At 10 years old, depreciation has had a ball with these cars, so buying one is akin to buying a 3 year old Fiat or something, but MB luxury is all over the car. Quiet ride, great electronics, large trunk, eye-catching style.

Bought my beautiful cls500 with 62k miles for only $13500 from a private party. About a month later, the air suspension failed. A few months later the crankshaft position sensor failed. Now the harmonic balancer is wobbling and that needs to be changed. All of these were repaired in my home garage, but still the parts are expensive and it is a lot of hard work and time. Fortunately many have had the same problems so there is a lot of online documentation to help you. The performance is awesome and suspension is excellent. The interior is classy and the exterior always turns heads. Since Mercedes is known for poor reliability, you can find these cars for cheap like I did. For the enthusiast, this is a good (not great) car. It's a love hate relationship. But if you don't know anything about cars, it's fair to say you will be at the dealership getting repairs every other month at a huge cost. Most of these things are doable for a home mechanic.

We wanted a sporty sedan for my wife, and I think that the CLS is about tops in that class. Looks, comfort and enjoyment factors are 5 stars. I would like better MPG (about 15) and less road noise from those wide tires, but nothing is perfect. This CLS comes very, very close though.

This is one of the best cars designed by mercedes - lots of technical bells and whistles that surprise you that they're there.
