Outstanding SL

by vince from Chicago, IL on Mon May 14 2012

Had seen many SL's and most were beat up or needed work done to it. I brought my car off a private seller who had meticulously looked after it. The price I paid was reasonable and pretty muchhalf what the dealers were asking for. There are some minor things I need to do, but its better than overhauling the engine.

Our Take on the 1992 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class

My heart is broken.

It happened the day two goons showed up and took away the bright red Mercedes-Benz 500 SL convertible, this week's test car.

At first I was skeptical. Before I so much as sat in it, I said even if I had the cash there's no way I'd blow $100,000 on a car. How could any car be worth that much?

Before I would shell out six figures for a car, it will have to drive on water and fly.

Well guess what?

The 500 SL does in a way.

A powerful 32-valve V-8 gives the sleek Benz an almost supersonic top speed. And a traction control system keeps the tires from losing grip on wet roads.

Driving the test car for a week had me contemplating any number of desperate scenarios.

Somehow, I... Read More
