Best Car I've ever owned.
There are a lot of positives for the 2005 Mercury Mountaineer. It is as solid as a rock, has lots of room, rides quiet, and has a very tight turning radius which makes it extremely easy to park in tight parking spaces. The anti-lock breaks will pull you right out of a slid and even got me out of a very slippery situation on black ice... where the other vehicles were turning sideways and even had an accident. It has plenty of drink holders, heated seats were fantastic, and the push-button entry prevents lockouts. The only thing negative that I can say about this vehicle is that it's a gas hog!

Pretty good vehicle
Nice looking vehicle with pretty decent room inside. Third row seat is a great option. Also I love the keyless entry (keypad on door). Air conditioning is not great. It doesn't blow strongly and doesn't blow well behind front seats. Overall a comfortable car for commuting and road trips. However gas mileage is poor, around 16.

The thing's a tank.
Just got back from a week in the UP in the middle of a forest. No real roads, many trails washed out-it was great. Was able to power through all week and had no issues.

Transmission problems
Ford has so many transmission problems it's unreal. Both me and my wife had to replace the transmission on our mountaineers. Year 2003and 2005 . Was looking at a Ford escape 2009and the still have the transmission problems. Wake up Ford

Nice big comfortable car!
Loving our 2005 Mercury Mountaineer! It is big and comfortable. Rides higher than a car and has comfy heated seats in the front. We purchased this car in Feb 2017 and it had right at 100,000 miles. Still drives great! The gas mileage is not what I would like, but gas is cheap right now ($2.15 per gallon) so I am not really concerned.

Excellent SUV
My husband and I purchased our red 2005 Mountaineer in 2010 with only 50,000 miles on it and only one previous owner. It was and still is in pristine condition both inside and outside. There's not even a single spot of rust on the body. We have taken this SUV just about everywhere. It handles great both on and off road and easily accommodates our 3 large dogs. This is hands down one of the most comfortable SUVs we have ever owned. We do also have a newer 2010 Ford Escape, which my husband uses for his one hour commute to work to save on gas, but we mostly find ourselves using the Mountaineer on the weekends and for trips because of the comfort and room this SUV offers. We have never had any problems at all with our Mountaineer, other than the routine maintenance stuff like new brakes and tires, but that's it. We highly recommend this vehicle! It's a huge upgrade from a Ford Explorer.

Mountaineer
This vehicle is a bit more luxurious than what I'm accustomed to but i'm getting used to it quickly. It's a quiet ride, lots of extras, was a great price, and lots of interior room. Only complaints I have is the small area for storage in the back when the third row of seats are up and with a V8 obviously the gas mileage isn't great, but I do like the power of the V8.

amazing!
ive always had SUV's and when i traded my '02 explorer in for this '05 mountaineer, i was pleasantly surprised! My husband usually picks out the cars and this choice was all mine so i took full advantage..i decided on the premier package which gives you some extras such as back up sensors..adjustable pedals and heated side mirrors just to name a few. i love this vehicle and handles great in NY snow and ice. this is the longest ive owned a vehicle due to the fact that my husband and kids wont let me get rid of it! beautiful car inside and out.
