Sporty car but
This is a great sporty car. Almost every time I go through a fast food drive-thru I get comments on it - not sure what it says that I am a grown-up and drive a car that 17 yr olds love. I love to drive it. It handles perfectly. Controls in steering wheel are amazing. BUT - This thing eats brakes and rotors. I had an independent shop do the brakes a couple of times, then gave up and took it to a respected dealer nearby. Same thing. I don't ride the brakes so not sure why this thing eats brakes. The window motors will break. I've had to replace both driver and passenger sides. If you're looking at a used Grand Am, ask if these have been replaced. I guarantee that they will need to be replaced before the car hits 120K. I paid about $280 each. The gasket referred to in other reviews will have to be replaced. My shop knew exactly what was wrong when this part went. They said this is very common in the Grand Am. My car has 130k on it, and all things considered, I don't regret buying it. Love the way it drives.

Wonderful vehicle
I purchased my 2000 GT1 sedan back in 2005, with 84,000 miles. I first owned a 2003 but with the cost per month, we decided to purchase this car so I wouldn't have a car payment. It can get a tad expensive. I was so happy with my first grand am that I had to purchase another one. I absolutely love my car. So far, only minor issues with the car, which will happen with a 9 year old car with now 118,000 miles. It is a sedan, so the motors in the back two windows did go out, but my fiancee was able to purchase the part online and install in the car himself. Most other issues have been typical wear on this age of vehicle and the Texas sun is no help. I have had no engine problems, and change the oil every 3,000 miles. It has great handling, even in the rain and has plenty of room. I will be devastated when my car finally dies, but I've gotten 4 great years out of it and hopefully many to come.

Good at first, then downhill after
I bought my 2000 grand am in 2002 with only 27,000 miles on it. I loved it, and never had a problem with it. Drove very smoothly. I dont drive in more than 10,000 a year if that (currently my milage is 77,000) I recently started having minor problems on it a couple years ago, and this past year and a half its all coming down. The one reviewer had all the same problems I've delt with. The clicking noise that sounds like my turn signal is going crazy all the time and has a mind of its own. And the engine seems like it wants to stall and shake a little when I'm idling at a stop light. (it actually stalled on me a couple times) I went in for a routine oil change and informed me I blown a head gasket (still no reason why). The routers and breaks and fan belt seem like I have to replace them every year. The look of the car is very nice and spacious, I guess its the mechanical aspect that seems to have an expiration date after not being that old, especially for someone who doesnt drive it that much. So I guess overall, its a great purchase if you plan on only keeping it for a couple years.

Nice Looking Car, but watch out!
This car is very sporty and suspension is tight. I purchased this car from a private owner and drove it about 5 days and parked it. The turn signals kept making clicking noises like they were on. The car seemed as if it was going to stahl when stopped and when driving the car sputters and has a rough ride. I took to two mechanics to determine problem and they think it may be the intake manifold. The air conditioner is shot and has a winding noise that makes the car sound terrible. Do not think I will be keeping this car much longer. It only has 135,000 and I have had the car only days and look at all the costly repairs. By the way it needs new tires and they are not cheap. I bought this car so I would not have to continue sinking money into mine. I am broke and not prepared to sink in over $1,000 worth or repairs.

Horrible car!
90,000 mine dropped a cylinder! And was unable to be fixed. The body is still in excellent shape, as well as the interior. But what good is that when the car does not run?! DO NOT BUY THIS CAR!

I LOVE this car
I have owned this car for two years now, and it is my baby. I absolutely enjoy my car. The car had 75,000 miles on it when it was purchased. The only major thing that had to be replaced on it were the plastic gaskets. After that it has ran perfectly. The "ponti" (as I like to call it) currently has 94,000 miles on it and it still runs great. Even after two years I cannot keep my foot out of it.

Fastest 4 Cyl. Granny Car
2000 Grand Am SE. Has an excellent ride, with more than enough horses when you need it. Adding tweeter speakers to the inner panel on the mirrors is a great idea except when you consider the fact that the mirrors are not the strongest things on the car, hence when your going fast enough with the music up they tend to be a bit fuzzy. I love the sporty design, but i do not like the fact that i have to jack up my car just to check the tranny fluid, not the greatest idea. I bougt this car used for $2,900 on 8-8-08 and the only thing that wasnt what i expected was the fuel economy, i was expecting 23-28, but then again i may have pushed it to the floor a few too many times, you just cant help it.

Great Car but lots of electrical repairs
Have 84K on it. Turn signal indicator replaced at 40k and 84K, three window motors replaced, Had to replace driver side automatic window control panel as well as two door lock solenoids. Had to replace two turn signal light bulbs including a rear light circuit board. Current issue is key goes in but won't turn. Small coolant leak from bad seals (leak stop worked) Not going to keep too much longer. Have enjoyed driving it, good power and handling. Nice exterior.

Pretty reliable car
I think that this is a great first car. It was mine and I loved it. I think that someone who cannot buy a brand new car should buy a Pontiac Grand Am because it is very reliable.
