Ridiculously reliable

It turns 17 years old this year and has been amazingly reliable. Granted it only has 97,000 miles, but I'm still very pleased with the minimal repairs I've had to do on it: an exhaust sensor went up, had to replace the speakers, a CVT joint needed replacing, and something regarding a spark plug. The only persistent problem I have is the bulb in the left headlight likes to burn out more frequently than it should.

Very Reliable - just flipped 250,000

Excellent value. Subaru service is excellent, and I expect I will probably get at least another 50,000 from this wagon. This is my second outback wagon, and I use it for commuting, road trips, camping, getting around town, etc. This car has never let me down or left me stranded.

Good buying experience

Very happy with the car. The test drive went very well and so far so good. It was a well-kept vehicle and looks very good for it's age. Very little exterior wear. Overall good first car for my teen.

Very reliable. Lots of highway miles.

This car met all of my needs, especially in the winter time. It handles very well on the take off on hills and on hills at traffic lights. In the summer, it does very well in corner turns and on wet asphalt. The gas mileage is better than it was when I first purchased it because I started using synthetic oil at oil change intervals. It also stops very well because of the high performance brake pad and rotor set that was installed in Feb. 2018.

Dave's my life, in a head on Collision

2017 I was involved in a head-on collision the person left me in the middle of 309 in Pennsylvania. The safety belt for my chest did not lock and I went into the steering wheel breaking it, when I unbuckled the Buckle ended in the street. I'm grateful that the car save my life. PT OT and physical therapy was needed. I'm alive to still spend time with my family.

Most Reliable Car I have owned.

Subaru's are known for their dependability. This is very true of what I had. Living in the mountains means I needed a good snow vehicle. This handled blizzard conditions on a mountain pass with ease. The only thing I didn't care for was the relatively underpowered engine. It struggled on the upside of the pass or hills. Otherwise it's a solid vehicle with great amenities.

Safe, dependable transportation.

No automobile is in this kind of condition at this mileage without being meticulously maintained by the owner.

Safe, reliable, and a little fun

I got my LL Bean Outback in '08 with about 83k miles on it, and it now has over 240k miles and shows no signs of stopping. The H6 engine is very solid and hardly needs any attention as long as you use high-quality oil and gasoline. The AWD is superb, and the stability on the road is so good that I've never missed having traction control. Upgrade the springs (King) and other suspension bits (Whiteline), and it handles quite well for a car with 7.3 inches of ground clearance. Interior comfort is good, but not quite on par with Lexus or BMW. The seats are comfortable and supportive, but not as soft as the new Subaru leather. The driving position and visibility are excellent, and large mirrors make for a surprisingly small blind spot. Don't expect too many high-end amenities (by 2017 standards), but everything that is there is laid out in a logical and simple manner. The heated windshield, mirrors, seats, and excellent defrosters make for an unbeatable winter car. Cargo space is good, and despite having an unusual rear seat folding system, it's easy to manage and gives a nice flat floor. It's sometimes surprising how much can fit inside this car. The cross bars on the roof are a little narrow, but still manage to hold a bike and a kayak (held flat, not angled) side by side. It's easy enough to work on this car, although the engine bay is pretty tight for spark plug changes. If you're used to working on Ford trucks, this will be a big change since everything is smaller and closer together. However, with some patience and lots of u-joints and socket extensions, you'll be able to work on this car without too much trouble. There aren't as many computers and electronics to work around as there are on new cars, which is a big help. Keep up with preventive maintenance and use high-quality fluids and parts, and this car will last many years without trouble.
