MR2 Turbo. Not recommended for kids or idiots.

by Milesdog5150 from Fair Oaks, CA on Wed May 16 2012

Poor man's Ferrari. If you can find one, buy it. Trust me. If you're a car guy, you already know about MR2s. The 1st and 3rd gen are tight sports cars similar in handling to the Miata, but the 2nd gen Turbo is a SCARY FAST rocket sled. Too much power. It will break loose if you let up mid-turn. Cool if you know how to drive, though.

Go Cart for the roads

by QQureshi from Allentown, PA on Thu Jul 27 2017

My friend bought this car recently, a 93 MR2 NA. I test drove it and found it absolutely amazing. The car, even though not powerful, pulls really nicely and even though weighs 2600lbs, hides it very well. This is the first Mid Engine car I have driven and you absolutely feel the difference. The car just feels like you are driving a go cart. It is very nimble, almost no body roll, and yes I have heard about the "Snap Oversteer" but that's a physical aspect of any Mid Engine car, and if you know the limits, it really surprises you being how good it is. The interior is really good for the year, exterior.. Three words, Pop-up headlights! The thing looks like a small NSX which is one of the most beautiful cars ever. If you're looking for a weekend/track car, this is the car for you. And if you can put up with the slightly harsher ride, it can absolutely be your daily!

Great Car

by Driver1 from Baltimore on Fri Nov 05 2010

Love the car - The engine is a Camry engine, so you get Camry reliability with Ferrari looks and handling. Only downside is you get Camry speed too. The car is not a drag racer. Get the turbo version for that. MPG is about 28 - not bad but not as good as either the MK I or MK III MR 2. This is not a light car for the size and you sit IN it, not ON it like a Miata.

Our Take on the 1993 Toyota MR2

This subcompact two-seat Toyota coupe came out in the 1985 model year to vie with the Pontiac Fiero for young people`s attention.

MR2 not only looked good, the 1.6-liter, 16-valve, 4-cylinder enginedelivered surprising pep while barely sipping fuel. And the sticker price was a mere $10,999.

Fiero is gone, but MR2 lives, though sadly it is decked out in radicalgarb and carries a price tag young people no longer can handle unless theyopt for a 3- or 4-year-old model.

The MR2 starts at $17,658, and the 1993 turbocharged model we tested was in an even more rarefied atmosphere at $21,218.

Ouch! And it`s not price alone that brings on that exclamation. Toyotaboasts of a performance suspension... Read More
